I highly recommend this course of action as well. As for the QX9770, I wouldn't buy older tech anyways, so it should be down to an i7 920 or a Gulftown (6-core).

I dont see a difference between my Q9650 at 4.2GHz and my i7 920 equv Xeon at 4.2GHz. But to buy a new system, and go Yorkfield Extreme edition is pointless IMO when i7-i5-i3 is out.

If people wait to buy parts based on what is comming out around the corner, no one would ever buy parts, 2 weeks after you buy something it is outdated. there is always new parts coming out. if what you are looking for is good enough for you buy it, no need to wait.

lol no deals on a qx9770 here
i hate taxes its about 550.00 to 850.00 for one up here on ebay or in a pc store or more
ima keep trying to take him down that road or when i get the 980x down the road ill sell him my i7 i can get it stable but he will need good air or water to get 4.4ghz cool hmmmmmmmmmm
He should go i7 if he does a lot of video encoding and what not, thats VERY CPU intensive. And for what its worth, tell him to ignore a extreme chip if he goes LGA775 again, better off getting a Q9550 or a Q9650 from Microcenter. They typically OC better, run cooler, and cost way less.
can you trust those tho i know i7980x use to be called the i9 but intel took it off there list and renamed it the i7980x i think lol
