Quake 4 LAGGING! on a 6600GT

Hey, im sure some of you recognize me from my whining and if you are be thinking " oh my... another whine post from this loser " Then you are right!

OK, this time its Quake 4. I bought it yesterday. I ran it. To be safe, i played it on low graphics and 640X400 resolution. WITH a 6600gt i EXPECTED smooth gameplay with AT LEAST 40FPS. WHen i ran it, it was PURE ****! . It was running from 10 - 15 FPS all the time ! ***! so i might be thing about the ram. So i went to buy a 1GB stick of RAM which has a speed of 333mhz.. ( yes, its slow, so i might be thinking Size might replace speed, and its the best speed my mobo can take ). I ran it, NO DIFFERENCE! IM GOING CRAZY!

HELP!

Uninstall all the grahpic card drivers of your system and use a program called driver cleaner install ''DRIVER CLEANER PRO'' and then go into safe mode and run the program and clean out all the nvidia drivers..before you do this download the latest drivers first and save it to your dekstop so that when you clean old drivers and restart your system you are ready to install new drivers.

ehh, drivers? why do you think its the drivers? dont you think its something to do with bottlenecking, WHICH is not really possible since i got quite a decent amount of RAM a decent speed. Drivers? hmmmm

It SHOULD run pretty smooth on your rig since it ran on 1024x768 high settings on my rig with around 50fps.

yeah, I'd say drivers too. Quake 4 is a very demanding game and there were some problems with it running smoothly on older drivers.

Another thing is that Quake 4 uses more of your system RAM for textures than most other games so it would probably be a good thing if you could bring that DDR333 back and get DDR400... even if your mobo doesn't support DDR400 since you have your cpu oc'd you'll be able to get your RAM running at much faster speeds.

Your not very "bottlenecked" with anything, and don't use that term anyways. You should be able to play with medium to high settings with no problems, so first thing I would try is getting some newer drivers

Also, make sure you don't have any crap going in the background that would make your comp slow(ctrl+alt+del)

1024x768, High, everything but Vsync set to on, 2xAA

On my rig, that gets me 40-50fps Your rig is better than mine, so hardware is not the problem.

So either it's your drivers, or else you might want to try formatting if you haven't done it in a while. When I formatted after 2 years of... not formatting, it gave me 500 more points in 3DMark03
