Question on temperatures

specs
P4 2.53 @ 2.94
gig ram ddr400 @412 (i think)
bfg geforce 6800gs 256 agp8x
gigabyte fx-rz

under load cpu at around 34 tops idles at about 18
not very stable at 3.02G so left at 2.9
in my speedfan chart i have two other temps and i dont know what they are, they both jump anywhere from -4 to 55 rather quicly so i'm guessing one is ram or maybe its temps on both ram sticks ??? have no idea. what are acceptable ram levels? the same as everything else i guess around 30-40 no higher than 60? will try to post some screenshots

Welcome to the forums.

Speedfan often misreads sensors or reads "mystery" sensors that aren't there. If you see negative temperatures, you can just disable that value in Speedfan's config (unless you are on phase change or other extreme cooling). The best way to verify which temp is which in Speedfan is to run another program such as Everest so you can correlate the temps between the two programs.

RAM temps are rarely an issue, and it's very unlikely that you actually have a RAM temp sensor. Just touch the RAM when it's under heavy load (being properly grounded, of course), and if it's extremely hot to the touch, rig up a fan to blow across the DIMMs. There are other cooling options available for RAM, but that's the cheapest and as effective as anything.

its about time!
i could never get anyone to give me another temp program that i could run. some said mbm but my board wasnt listed under the gigagyte's so i couldnt use it without a system crash. i will try the above suggested and look at those and make some midly educated decisions. as for the ram temps and cooling i should have plenty of cross wind from other fans, and i think my window fan is directly over the ram too.

and the hdd is already listed under temps so one of the two mystery temps wasnt hdd. just fyi. maybe psu ??

while your in here...
i was running the 2.53 at 3.02 booted to windows fine, got to running fear and game freezes and crashes system, upon restart i turn back down to 2.94.
would the shut down be from cpu overheating or from game not running on same speed as it did in the install??? but cpu temps never got about 35 during game, i did experience a 8 degree spike at random intervals ( says speedfan) but still never even hit 50C. should i keep going and just maybe reinstall games?
