Sempron OC Probs

Thread Starter
I overclocked my AMD Sempron 3100 from 1.8ghz to 2.0ghz, I just entered to Bios and raised my FSB speed from 200mhz to 225 mhz, the computer rebooted normally and enter to windows normally, but when i opened a game(Operation Flashpoint) and with few minutes of been playing the PC shutdown, my video wasnt overclocked, I checked the temp to see if that was the troubles and it was stuck at 45c, normally runs at 39c.

Later I restored the default optimized settings on the bios and the PC worked fine and i played the game long time without shutdowns, so why my PC response so negative with the Overclock

Ive had same problems when i go into a game. I had ocd from 1.6GHz to 2.0GHz. Download clockgen and check your AGP & PCI are not too high. If they are then lock them in your bios and that should solve your problem. I cant lock mine for some reason but you should be able too. Also have you raised your vcore voltage? and have you altered your memclock timing?

Thanks for responding, my AGP is at 66mhz normally speed, my memclock is Auto(400mhz) if I raised manuallly at top speed of 166mhz this will down at 333mhz, so I dont change it, I cant raise my Vcore from the BIOS, I can see my Vcore but I cant modify it, now I downloaded the ClockGen so what I should do now...

first of all let me be the 1st to tell u that oc is an art....u have to take it slow just you would courting a girl....u cant find out the limits by running full steam ahead...u must go slow....

my guess is you have one thing or the other limiting ur performance and i have a strong feeling that its either ur vga or ur memory timing....

b4 u proceed any further i propose that u read the following guide on oc and take it step by step....

u MUST first of all identify the limits of each of ur component before u even try to oc....once u know their individual limits u can figure out more or less their combined limits as u try to increase performance...

imagine that ppl generally increase their clock speed 5MHz at a time and not 25MHz...but i can understand as i was a noob once too....

Well, i wasnt so nooby, I raised it values of 10mhz at a time slowly and finally 225mhz reached the 2.0ghz, I have read too much about OC and aint so hard thing, just need some of basic rules and a well cooling system , I know all the limits of my system, I know that i cant go more than 2.4ghz in my Sempron and if I dont have a well cooling system I cant fry it with the Mobo, what I need to know is what I do to avoid that nasties rebootings, why the Computer is restarting after a OC when I play a game...

And other thing my Mobo can overclock each component individualy without changing the rest, so can be a independent OC of each component

well man i am sorry but i didnt mean to offend u....anyhow, if u r going to oc then basically there is no way to avoid the reboots....u have to find the most effective oc and then run Prime95 or superpi and see just how stable ur system is....if it can run at that speeds and oc then ur games should not have a problem...but sometimes prime95 and superpi runs fine but still ur pc can still crash due to the simple fact that neither programs stress ur vga card and if ur graphic card cannot stand those conditions and start to overheat then u would have this game crashes....

again sorry mate...now that i have read it myself...it does sound kinda heavy handed and snobbish...

btw, also forgot to include the link for the oc guide...

from what i've read ..... individually clocked or not every part affects every other part .... they have to function as one to be stable .....
