Razer DeathAdder on and off help!

Thread Starter
I bought a razer deathadder 3500 dpi one from a site like EBAY but for new zealand called TradeMe 3 months ago. I can't return it to the guy cause i lost his contact info, and i can't return it to razer cause im not in US or CANADA.

It was bought as a new, un-opened, product. so it was infact NEW.

It has been a marvelous mouse over the past 3 months and has not been mistreated in anyway at all. but now randomly every time i plug it into the computer it automatically turns on and off and on and off and on and off etc continuously every second. like as if its being plugged in and unpluged every second. My pc also makes the beeping noises as if its being plugged, unplugged.

Does it with other computer, other operating systems, with/without drivers. so im pretty sure its the mouse.

So my question is, what can i do? has this ever happened to anyone before? google search results in nothing.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a disconnect/short in the usb cord. I had the same thing happen to my mx300, and it eventually stopped working completely. Does wiggling the wire or holding it in place fix it temporarily? You can fix it by finding the problem area (usually where the cord leaves the mouse), cutting it out and splicing the two sides back together.

It's not too hard, I ended up repairing it in about 30 mins(works perfectly now), and I had very little soldering experience. It'll cost about $15-$30 for all the materials (soldering iron, solder, electrical tape). If you decide to do it and need advice, I can post more info.

i can't seem to fix it for a second by wiggling the cord near the mouse or tryna push it in a bit. Same with the usb end..still goes on and off rapidly.

Yea that doesn't always fix it, but I'd say they problem is definitely the cord. So you have two options, either buy a new mouse since you can't RMA it, or try and fix it yourself, and gain some useful soldering experience in the process.

I'd definitely recommend that you google "how to solder" and watch a few tutorials on it. It's not overly complicated, and the videos are all fairly short, but there a few things that you should know.

Then buy a soldering iron, solder, a wire stripper, and electrical tape.

Look at the picture below. See the blue circle? That's most likely where the problem is, so what you'd have to do is cut the cord where you see the blue lines. Then take some scissors or a knife, and carefully make a nick in the outer insulation so that you can peel it off to reveal the 5 individual wires inside(the white, green, red, and 2xblack that you can see going into the white socket). Only peel it back about an inch or so.

Do this for both ends. Then take your wire stripper and strip each of those 5 smaller wires back, for both ends again. If you've never used a wire stripper before, watch a quick tutorial. After you strip off this inner insulation, you'll see a bunch of tiny copper wires all bunched together. Twist each one a little bit so it doesn't fray everywhere.

Now all you have to do is twist the matching sides together http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=281500, solder and then wrap the soldered joints in electrical tape so that they don't touch. You could actually skip the soldering if you wanted, and just use electrical tape, but the strength of the splice would be pretty weak.

Then you'll likely have to push the soldered cord in further than it would be normally, so that the spliced portion is inside the mouse, not hanging near the opening. You may also have to find superglue the opening or something, as it seems to be rather big normally, with the bulky plastic portion (that you would have cut off). Or maybe not since there might be an L-shaped indention in the bottom half that holds the cord in place, like in the Mx300 I fixed. Hard to tell from the pic.

Hope that made sense.

I tried opening the DeathAdder but it is completely impossible.

The screws in holes are insanely tight, Hercules himself couldn't even unscrew them.

Like I said I've never opened one before, but many people have. Are you sure you found all the screws? You need to remove the feet first.
