Installing Sound Card w/Onboard Sound

Thread Starter
I just got my audigy2 zs today, and I want to install it. However, my ASUS A8N5X MOBO has onboard sound. What do I do? Do I need to take anything apart inside? Do I just slide my card in a PCI slot and select to use it over the 8.1 channel audio on the MOBO? If so, how do I do this?

Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to disable the onboard sound. Then install the sound card. Windows will see the new hardware and try to install drivers. Use the Cd that came with the card and you should be good go

I think it's in control panel, under sounds and audio devices, then when I go to hardware, it has Realtek AC'97 Audio. I disabled it and now I have no sound, but there are some other sound things in there, like audio codecs, legacy audio drivers, and media control devices. Should I just leave all of those enabled?

normally when a sound card is add to the pci Mobo will automatically disable onboard sound( my asus bord does that, it has only disable / auto configs for O/B audio).

Anyway in Asus boards you can disable O\\B audio @ bios in "chipset features" or something like that.

you dont need to unplug anything.(but look for Mobo book for more info)

Just connenct your sound card to pci port and plug speaker wires to sound card.
Boot the pc and install s.card with the cd it had.

all legacy and other audio codecs are installed with driver.

if youre using winamp or something like that you can also check output.
change it to sb live

hope this helps ;]
