New build -which processor and motherboard? - Page 2

mmm i still cant decide on which one they both seem like really good boards which have good overclockabilty on them..... but not sure which one.

if i use sli on the asus does that render the pci e x1 and x4 useless?
i ve seens pictures and it seems that if u use sli the gfx cards will cover the ports.
p.s.
oh a noobie question can you use an ati graphics card on either of these boards?? s

Yes you can use an ati on a nforce chipset, and vice versa with no performance loss.

Get the opteron 165, put the extra money into a nice vid card.
If you arent realllllllly going to sli, there isnt always the need to buy an sli board. You can save some cash and put it towards a x1900 or a 7900 instead of sli'ing some mid range cards. It would produce a better gaming experience to go with new technology.

If you are just gaming dont even bother with dual core, as there is no performance increase really with it.

If you want a nice OC'ing pci-e board w/o sli dfi has 1 thats nice and the biostar 6100 tforce line is solid. Lots of bios overclocking options, and good results in both.

mm.. thats true i probably dont need an sli board and when the times comes to get a new gfx card i ll probably just buy a new gfx card. instead of getting another gfx card and putting them in sli mode.

i think i have decided on the dual core as i do run alot of things in the background and do do alot of other multi tasking things.

but i havent decided which board to go for. ...

i was thinking of getting a 7800 but which one?? any suggetions? do you reckon these ones are any good?
Leadtek GeForce 7800GT £205.57

Look for a 7800GT with a copper HS... they cool better if you plan to OC it!
BTW, both MBs are fiine! The DFI is a bit more demanding to OC than the Asus!

i plan to Oc my processor so i am thinkin of getting a water cooled system, could i just get an attachment for the chipset on the gfx card..
and
do you mean 'demanding' in harder to OC, but would i get better OC preformance from the dfi if i were to water cool it than the asus board

Read the HardOCP review on the Asus before choosing DFI. They state "its the highest and most stable OC board" they have ever tested.

they do state that but im thinking of getting a dual core processor and the asus Mobo restricts the maximum values of many options in the bios

such as vcore is restricted to 1.54 .. i think its that value.

im thinking of overclocking it so it can keep up with furture processors. dont really want to change each year. haha like i have done already.

but i am interested in the passive cooling and the 8 phase power of the asus.
do you know how much performance is given from the 8phae.
and what are your idle and oad temps of teh chipsets.?

(q for 'robilar')
