BFBC2 unlocking M1 Garand without BUYING another BF game

So I tried last night to get my veterans status up to 1(http://veteran.battlefield.com/) with no prevail. As of right now the Battlefield Heroes game is the only one that shows up. I downloaded the BF2142 Demo because I read that the demos work, well it didn't.

There has got to be another way of getting the Veterans status to 1 without buying another BF game. So my question does anyone know how to do this?

EDIT:So I finally figured out how to get the gun without buying a game.

1. Download BF Heroes and BF2 Demo. Both are FREE!!! The BF2 demo I downloaded from nzone.com you can find it other places just get it by whatever way you feel comfortable.
2. Create an account on the BF2 DEMO (multiplayer area) that matches email and user names of other EA/Battlefield accounts
3. Load and play a game of each (just to make sure it registers).
4. Go to http://veteran.battlefield.com/
5. BF Heroes should just show up. For BF2 enter in your USERNAME(not email but email might work didn't check) and Password.
6. You should now have a veteran status of 1.
7. Load BFBC2, login. Go to multiplayer tab. Under multiplayer tab go to weapons and gadgets. The M1 garand should be darkened\\visible (It's far bottom, right, last weapon on the list).
8. Enjoy!

I have yet to find a server I can use it in yet. Tried about 3 before I updated this.

I have bf:v and 1942 but i cant find the CD keys... however I do have the garand available by putting in BF2 and all the add on packs - i actually only bought BF2 deluxe but not all the crazy add ons that it let me register for.

You could just break down and buy one man. BF2 is still a good game but 1942 would probably be the cheapest (used for $2 on amazon). BF 1943 runs on the same game engine but it's more of an arcade shooter.

I think the only way to become a Battlefield veteran is by owning another battlefield game, thats the whole point of it.

If it came down to buying a game BF2 is a fun one and can be found for under $10. I still think the Garand is only ok in BC2.

BF2142 kicks butt.... since you didn't like it, you don't get veteran status!

My bad, I guess I'm just spoiled with all the aesthetically pleasing games out now a days.

Trying to find the cheapest Battlefield digital download game (instant keys lol). Anyone know of any other sites from Steam and D2D?

The Voss just has a larger clip.

thinking back, you're 100% right on.... as always. The current problem is that I'm arguing with a bottle of Glenfiddich. It's winning.

PS: Why can't I connect to EA online, I always game better drunk.

2142 doesn't work and you need all the booster packs with BF2 and that still doesn't work.

i have BF2 special forces..does that count?

go here http://veteran.battlefield.com/

The pop down menu on the right has a listing for Bf2: Special Forces.

You're prompted for your BF2 login and PW.

If the game works it will show up on the screen without being shaded.

Also, what significance does this intend to achieve?

1. Some of the games have issues registering. I think 2142 is one of them

2. You unlock the M1 Garand, for the game Battlefield: Bad Company 2, if you have a veterans status of 1 on the website aforementioned.

You just get the Garand and a little 1 next to your veteran status when someone compares you against their character

Garand is pretty decent, but tbh not worth the hassle of me finding my BF:vietnam and BF2 CD Keys
