I was told that was quite a good one. But is there anything a wee bit less expensive (I am on a really tight budget)

Those are all GREAT, and I am very grateful that you ppl are trying to help, but is there RAM that is a bit cheaper, but would still overclock good? Hopefully not too much over $100?
Edit:
And no more than $120 ish

well there is stuff you could get that would be decent, check out some other g.skill stuff. But TCCD is really good for overclocking. it is definately worth the extra money.

my OCZ platinum rev. 2 TCCD will do DDR640 at 2.5-4-4-8

I don't want to get into an arguement... but let it suffice to say that Corsair has the worst customer service I've ever experienced and I went though 3 pairs of their 3200C2 before I got a pair that actually worked.
I wasn't trying to start anything. I was just giving you a hard time. I have had really good luck so far with Corsair. Sorry if there was any confusion. No hard feeling right?

The lower the better often you see a row of timings like 2-2-2-5 @ 200mhz or 3-4-4-7 @ 200mhz the first of those with the lower timings are better, and more expensive. Often the rams which have low timings will be much better overclockable, especially when loosening the timings (meaning the get higher). If you really want to overclock, you should get rams which are rated faster then 200 mhz (pc3200). But then again if you cant spend the extra money you will have to work with dividers and be satisfied with les performance.

Most on these forums are pure overclockers, so if you ask them for advice they always give you the best there is. Thats why you always should say a max price you can spend, and then again lots will try to convince you to get the better ones.

I would suggest you to get some cheaper rams of the good firms like gskill, ocz, etc. But most important is if those rams you gonna buy will run perfectly with your mainboard, so thats an important thing to investigate after, sorry i cant tell you much about gigabyte boards. Browse the site and look if you can find qaulified vender lists (qvl) and check the site of the rams to see which mainboards they suggest for working best with their rams.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128286
Good with this ram:

P.S. Is this RAM good for overclocking. From what i can see it is, but I am stupid, and need an experts opinion.

I Have that mboard and I like it.

I couldn't get my HZ gskill DDR500 past 270mhz (DDR540) but its hard to say if it was the ram or the mboard.

Another thing I've found about this board is that the vcore only goes to 1.45 so that could hold you back from really upperend OC's.

The RAM voltage only goes to 2.8 also but most the ram out now doesn't need much extra voltage should be enough.

The only othe extra's this board doesn't have is firewire and dual bios but those are not a big deal IMO, I care more about the voltage limits.

I really recommend the Venice 3200+ to go with that board, they seem to be a match made in heaven as far as I can tell.

That ram is geared more for tight timings then it is an overclocker(mhz). If you wanted crazy mhz ram but don't care about tighter timings you could do better then this stuff.

Tighter timings can and will make up for the less mhz.
