Realistic Driving Simulator/Training Game?

Thread Starter
Overclock,

One of my coworkers has been asking me if there is any realistic driving simulator/training PC game out there for someone to practice driving fundamentals and not racing.

Bottom line, my coworker has a daughter who don't seem to have to "coordination" to drive well, and she scares everyone to death when she drives. She freezes up when cars pull out in front of her and has tunnel vision issues and doesn't look down road.

So I'm basically looking for a real world driving simulator, or at least a game that has some features that could be used to help this girl and better the roads out there for all of us!

I'm planning to pick up a Logitech G27, and if the game plays well with Eyefinity across 3 screens, that's a huge plus.

Thanks guys!
Andy

Not sure there really is what you are looking for. Test Drive Unlimited is all set on normal roads but the physics are hardly realistic. iRacing is extremely realistic but its all racing.

I got my Level D 767 installed today and got my Saitek Pro Flight Yolk hooked up. (Not in this picture)

Back on topic, I guess if there isn't anything out there that meets what we're looking for, the next best thing would be the most realistic racing game out there...?

Maybe I'll pick up a month trial of iRacing. Looks a little dated, but people seem to say it is really realistic.

How's the game play on Need for Speed: Shift? I saw this at my local Fry's on 3 monitors and it looked really good. I can never get any time to play with it since there are always kids playing on it. Is this a somewhat realistic game, or more of an arcade feel to it?

nah, NFS Shift is more realistic, but its still an arcade game.
Try the demo of Live For Speed. it has a dashboard view and supports clutch but its still a racing game. i recon thats the most realistic you can get.

and Midtown Madness 2 for practicing stopping at traffic lights!

+1 at Looking into Live For Speed. It is a simulator that is being developed by 3 people. Probably the best physics in a driving/racing game I've ever seen.

There is no substitute for the real thing. Get proper driving lessons with a qualified instructor with duel controls. Any danger, the instructor stops the car.

Shift isn't realistic, its more likely to make someone crash a real car than anything else. Racing might be worth a go though as it does help improve your awareness and confidence. iRacing is very realistic and LFS would be quite a good choice too because of the lower power road cars. There are also a few cruise servers on LFS where you have to drive properly around a town in road cars. I'd recommend you pick up the LFS demo first
