HELP! Will a 9550 work with my dell?

Thread Starter
ok, im going to try to make as much sense as i can, I have a P4 2.5 GHZ Dell with 1gig of ram. Now i am wanting to update my GFX card to a ATI Radeon 9550 256MB AGP so i call up dell and see if this is compatible they say yes i have a AGP 2.0 slot and the card will work, then they say that it wont becaue my computer can only handle a 128mb of ram GFX card so ummm... yea.. they gave me a site with more of my computer specs if you need more information. Thanks for any help!

ok i see nothing that would limit the type of videocard that can be installed... but i did notice the agp slot was only 4x/2x compatible... so your best off getting a good 4x agp card, or just upgrading you MOBO and GFX card and use all the other components form the computer. but i think you will be fine installing the 9550...

well any agp card should work... but you may need to pay attention to the power requirements cause your dell only has a 250w psu.

it's hard to say... if you underpower your system you will likely experience random restarts, overall system instability and you won't get the full performance out of your new card.

that could be why someone at dell said that you could only get a card w/ 128mb or RAM... they're trying to keep you from getting too power hungry of a card.

And, don't think that the person from Dell lied to you... a lot of people who work for dell know less than 1/4 about computers than people on here do... they just don't know what they're talking about.
