Dell Vostro 200

Thread Starter
Well, I just reinstalled windows on a Dell Vostro 200 (for the second time). It seems that 7 does not have built in drivers for the onboard or the wireless card.

I have been trying every driver I can, and not one of them works. I have windows 7 x64 installed, perhaps I should do a x86 install?

I looked up the service tag on dell and this is the list of stuff it came with. I cannot tell which one would be the wireless card.

For such a basic system, no real point installing 64-bit. Not like you have greater than ~3.25/3.5 GB of RAM to use in the system...

No guarantee that you can get Windows 7-32bit working on that system either, though Dell does provide Vista 32-bit drivers, so you might be lucky.

As to the wireless... Dell lists three models:

Asus Wireless LAN PCI Full / Half Height

Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n
Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN MiniCard

I would suspect either the 1505 or the Asus - since I'm fairly certain that the 1395 has built-in drivers.

You might have to take out the card and see if it provides a card-specific or chip-specific model number and get drivers from the chip manufacturer.

---

With regards to the onboard NIC, it looks like an Intel 825xx-series 10/100 (Fast Ethernet) device. Probably a crapshoot with the drivers that Intel has available on the website.. I'd probably just download all of them.

The most promising one that I would probably try is the Vista 64-bit driver provided for the Inspiron 530/530s desktop. It has the same part description:
http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=253837

They have a driver for the Dell Wireless 1505 for Vista 64-bit under the same product support page.

Nothing on the Asus wireless card...

Hm, I will try your driver suggestions (as for the inspiron ones) and if all else fails, I will try a 32 bit install, and find some drivers that way.

Last ditch would be to take out the card and look.

Found drivers for it.

I was constantly looking up RT2561 drivers, for a Ralink card. Thats is, what I at least saw in everest.

I pulled out the card, and it was a linksys card. Snooping around showed that this specific card used a ralink chip.

Anyway, more digging, and I found the needed drivers. Thanks for the help, pushed me to actually look at the card.
