Buliding 1.48 Opteron /suggestions? - Page 2

Its funny. DFI owners are loyal to dfi and asus owners are loyal to asus. I've actually owned a DFI intel board (875P-T) and had to RMA it twice. Asus on the other hand has been a brand I dealt with when I had a computer store for 9 years, and personally for the last 2 since. I guess it really depends on what you want in a board. DFI is a better overclocker but is complicated as heck for noobs and also is known to be fussy with ram and power supplies. Asus doesn't have the same OC levels (although the A8N32 is pretty darn good) but works with everything and is stable as anything out there. Also the Asus forum is excellent for user support (similar to DFI street). My bad experiences with DFI have pretty much decided what I will be buying (until I have a bad experience with Asus).

I think you should upgrade to PCI-e or wait to upgrade for the new DX10 gpus coming out.....

Thread Starter
That was accually the plan...The reason i was going to continue with my agp was to conserve on $ and wait for the new stuff to take flight... I would just build a SLI system right now for the exception that this year there may be a better route... If i decide to build a pc this spring i think ive settled on a AMD64 4000+, 2 evga 7800 gts, Corsair 3200 xms pro2gigs,Dfi lanparty UT nf4 sli expert..... I guess ive been waiting for a year now for something to come out that just shatters everything... I dont think that is going to happen for a couple years.... So this system should be a nice step up from what i have now.......

I just pulled 2 opty 144s from monarch for $150 a piece, if you got a 148 for <$160 thats insane!

yeah, I meant to say 256... LOL. if you read someone corrected me and I made another post w/ the correction. I wish I got it for 156!

anywho, yeah well my current board is an Asus and I built my bro's computer w/ an Asus board... and I'm switching to DFI. my expert should be here tomorrow.

I just haven't really been that impressed w/ Asus' support. when I've emailed them it has taken them 2+weeks to respond and when they do their answer isn't helpful at all... on the phone they aren't a whole lot better. Also, their support forums are just people helping other people... Asus doesn't pay any employees to moderate or to actually provide help.
