Didn't you guys hear about the Toyota hybrids and their mechanical failures as of the past month or two? Either the brakes didn't work, or the accelerator got stuck, I forgot which one.

Not to mention which, the guy said he was "afraid to lose power steering if he turned the motor off", what kind of idiocy is that? Lack of power steering only is an issue at a stop or slow speeds (like less than 5mph)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's it.
Switching to neutral would stop the transmission from putting power to the wheels, but you're right it wouldn't cut the throttle. You'd just bounce off the rev limiter until you shut the car off.

This. My dad rented one recently because he just likes to rent cars, even though his car works perfectly... then again... I thought people who did this rented cars like Lambos... but I digress.

The transmission, pedals, and pretty much everything else in the car was, I believe, electronic. The accelerator was fly by wire, and the "transmission" which was a little knobby thing next to the steering wheel was also and computerized response, and not directly hooked up to the gear box.

Maybe I'm wrong, but there could be some sort of electronic signal that dictates whether or not the Prius can be in certain "gears"... if that's what they are on the Prius. Lol.
