Your cars were fine before all this, in fact, they were pretty top notch. Just make it stop.
You two get your horse and buggy out of my way. I like having ABS and air bags thank you. It can go too far though. Look up the "Luxgen", a Taiwan made car. Its controlled by an HTC phone running windows!

I like the automatic in stop and go traffic but other than that I prefer a straight drive(manual).
Manual all the way, no clutch, just feels, weird..

Why is drive-by-wire being used at all? Is it cheaper to produce than cables and hydraulics?

It makes sense on an airplane that needs 10,000 minor adjustments per second, but not a car that can be driven with one knee and half a brain while drinking coffee and talking on a cell phone with one eye closed.

Well, that's why Toyota is in some pretty deep trouble right now.
Yeah you're spouting some rich misinformation here. I suggest you just not post where cars are concerned.

I really don't think "fly by wire" is the cause. FBW is really quite new (they only started experimenting w/ it in moto-gp in the early 2000's) only being on recently released vehicles. There are many recalled models for the accel issue that pre-date consumer usage of FBW.

The first thing I would do is take my foot off the gas and slide it under the pedal to see if I could pull it up while my other foot is on the brake.. if that doesn't work I would throw it in Neutral.. and if that doesn't work for whatever reason just throw it in Park or First gear (boom?) and see what happens

Have you guys considered that since the braking system is different on a Prius (it has all that battery charging crap on it) that perhaps it doesn't function the exact same way as any other car? Maybe it is much harder to stop, you know?

Somebody doesn't know what the word 'panic' means...your formerly obedient car has suddenly Hulked out and is hurling itself down a highway, ignoring your commands. I'd probably freak out myself, even if I knew what to do. Most people operate under the assumption that their car isn't going to go Evil Kinevel and they won't know how to stop it if it does.

The problems have nothing to do with the physical pedal being stuck. It is a malfunction of the computer controlled engine management system. This is not just on the Prius but other cars as well including some from Lexus.

Toyota royally screwed up on this one. The testing they do on their cars is severely lacking. They rush vehicles into production quite often. The Prius in particular has been susceptible to many malfunctions in the past and many recalls since its initial production, but nothing has been so severe as the current issues.

Electronic Stability Control and the Traction Control System in modern cars save lives... also ESC will be standard in every new car sold after 2012.
