Yeah and it has about no stopping ability and if it locks, you're done. Its a parking brake.

Parking brake.

The parking brake is cable actuated unlike the hydraulic, vacuum boosted pedal system. That cable stretches, like all cables and becomes ineffective over time. Moreso when going 90+ with both engine systems running wide open.

It will not stop the car in that situation.

what we need to see is the dash cam vid from the chp.

^ shows a properly working prius. I dont see how you can get smoking brakes from that, unless you were to continuously make 90 to near zero and back to 90 stops. she doesnt even have to slam on the brakes to get the engine to cut off completely at WOT.

Toyota just released preliminary findings on the case. Not only could they not replicate the issue on the same vehicle, but the black box inboard told them the man pushed on the brake and gas pedals 250 times throughout the incident. Basically, he wasn't going 90 to 0 and back again, but it's very possible he was going 90-85 and back again to try and cook the brakes...
