Rankings of CPUs

Thread Starter
Hey. I was wondering how different CPU's rank against each other. Mainly Athlon 3000-3700 and opy 144-148. This would be based on ocing on stock cooling. what would be the best to buy? What would be the best value? If there is already a thread with this in sorry i searched around but could only find GPU ranks.

the opty 148 and athlon 64 3700+ are identical chips, just with different steppings, and testing standards. The opterons are tested more strenously and were intended for server use, but the current steppings for the 3700+ are great for overclocking, becoming some of amd's best bargain cpus, and they are cheaper than the comparable optys considering amd just raised the prices of opterons.

of the athlon 64's with 512k L2, the 3200+ is your best option.
of the athlon 64's with 1MB L2, the 3700+ san diego is the best option.
of the opterons, the 146 is the best option.

These are price/performance recommendations..
