Fahmon guide

Files Needed:

Fahmon - "Windows Installer" link; can't miss it.
(Direct Link)

Prerequisites:

Have at least one Folding client running (Unicore, SMP, VMware, GPU2).

Installation:

1) Doubleclick the .exe and install to a location of your choice.

It should look like this when you first open it:

Before we configure the clients, let make some aesthetic changes:

2) Go to View> Show/Hide WU info panel:

3) Rightclick the "Progress" coloumn and untick some boxes (my choices; feel free to adapt):

4) Now lets minimise it to the taskbar and start it up automatically:

Configuration:

1) To start adding clients, rightclick the white space in the middle (or go to Clients> Add a new client):

2) You'll be presented with a screen to add the name of the client (whatever you want) and the location:

Now, there are 4 types of clients you can use; Unicore, SMP, GPU2, VMware. Here are how you configure Fahmon for each (use the corresponding location for Folding clients on other computers):

Unicore:
Name: [Your Choice]
Location: C:\\Users\\[Your User]\\AppData\\Roaming\\Folding@home-x86

SMP:
Name: [Your Choice]
Location: C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Folding@Home Windows SMP Client V1.01

GPU2:
Name: [Your Choice]
Location: C:\\Users\\[Your User]\\AppData\\Roaming\\Folding@home-gpu

VMware:
Name: [Your Choice]
Location: Depending on the VMware, this can be:
\\\\[IP Address]\\c\\etc\\folding\\1\\
or
\\\\[IP Address]\\fah

3) That's it! Fahmon should now be configured, and should look like this:
(NOTE: Don't run multiple clients on the CPU; the SMP or VMware will each use all available cores. Demonstration purposes only.)

Some notes on the coloured boxes:

Green: The client is running fine, and the PPD calculation is up to date.

Yellow: One of two things. Either the client is fine, but has only just started, so the PPD hasn't updated (as in the picture). Let it complete +3% and it will go green.
Or, the client has crashed. In this case, check the "Errors" section below for more information.

Red: The client is not running. If you didn't turn it off youself and the box is red, see the "Errors" section below too.

Black: The "Location" was typed in wrong/to a wrong place, and there is no client for Fahmon to monitor. Check for typos, or if using a VMware, post a thread with your installed VMware image.

Errors:

As we all know, Folding can bring up some errors. In the case of your client crashing and you don't know why, you can always check the FahLog. Simply press F8 to open the Log:

If you got an "EUE" errror, and are told the client is pausing for 24 hours, do the following:

1) Close the client.

2) Doubleclick the client in Fahmon; this will open up the client's folder.

3) Delete the "work" folder and the queue.dat file:

4) Restart the client. If the client is still getting errors, or you don't recognise the error, post a thread with your FahLog (either uploaded or in [CODE] tags) and someone will be able to help out.

Community Service:

Finally, we come to the end of the guide. Hopefully everything went smoothly and you know have a fully functioning client.

It would be appreciated however, if you would submit your results to our Database:

GPU PPD Database (ATI form added)

To do this, press CTRL+B to open the Benchmarks windows. Under each Project number, you'll see credit (the points for eeach WU) and various values. Use the Ave. Time/Frame value for PPD:

Important: Please don't submit any CPU PPD values to the CPU database, as Fahmon doesn't include bonus points for the new WUs, so the results will be incorrect.

I don't know if it would help it load faster. Wouldn't the website load the images anyway, resize them, then hide them in the spoiler?
EDIT: Yeah, reasoning along these lines, the spoiler tags wouldn't load the page any faster.

I'm thinking about it from a pure "looks" point of view.

Zod, did you know that if you register @ fah2web.com, you can set it up so that your FAHMON stats are sent to the web and you can monitor your progress from anywhere?

I have it setup on my iPhone so that I can monitor in case any of my clients freeze, hit a EuE, etc..

You can 'click' on your client too for more information, just like the computer.

Wish I would have know about that before I went through the trouble up setting up web viewing through my website. After you register they make it so easy to set up. Thanks for sharing that, MistaBernie. I will keep that in mind for future reference.

Anytime! I'm amazed sometimes by what I can do with my Cell Phone.. (I've had my fiancée give me some strange looks though when I'm like 'omg, I think my PC just crashed' and bolt out of the room, heh. )
