My first custom gaming build... (AMD)

Thread Starter
Parts I have already ordered:

Case- Raidmax Sagitta 2
PSU- APower 750W Sata ATX
Mobo- ASUS M4A79T Deluxe 790FX
CPU- AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
CPU Cooler- Zalman CNPS9900LED
Memory- Still deciding.....
Video Card- Still deciding....
Hard Drive- Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 500GB
DVD/RW- Samsung 22x SH-S223L Sata
Sound Card- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCI-e (ordering soon)
Card reader- 3.5" Internal All-in-one USB reader/writer
Wifi/BT- 2 in 1 Wifi/Bluetooth PCI card

Existing items from old computer:
Monitors- 2 x Dell 20" Widescreen 2005FPW, 2 x Polyview V293 19"
Speakers- Creative Inspire 5.1 5300 system

I have 4 monitors because I use to do day-trading on them and had all my charts setup on them. I have the 2 20" in the center, one above the other with the 2 19" to either side of the bottom 20". Can't wait to do some gaming on these!

Still deciding on which video cards to get. Thinking about 2 Nvidia Geforce GTX 260's in SLI or 2 ATI Radeon HD 4870's in Cross Fire. I know my mobo is geared toward the crossfire setup so I'm kinda leaning toward the Radeon's. What do you think??

The memory I'm just looking for a good deal. But its going to be 4GB's of DDR3 1600MHz dual channel RAM.

I will try to post up pics as the components come in!

TOTAL COST WITHOUT GPU AND MEMORY SO FAR: $460!!!!!! (minus shipping)

stick with crossfire, I suggest the newer 5000 Radeon models, better future proof. Why dont you gun for the 890FX when it comes out, that will future proof as well. Get some good memory, Gskill, Patriot, AData, Corsiar. The rest looks pretty good to me man, get some aftermarket cooling and OC that mother.

seems pretty tight. i've got no opinion on a gpu or memory. since i'm not updated on the new graphics cards. i knew all about graphics cards when mine was brand new. all i can say is that i know ATI has the best graphic card out right now. not sure what it is, but it has two cores on one card.

Well the reason I was looking at the 4870's is because my plan was to keep the whole build under $800. I'm pretty much on track right now. I'm going to buy the memory and sound card next, then I will see how much I've spent at that point and make a decision on the video card.

....and yes, Overclocking is definitely on the menu!

The 4870's don't support eyefinity. :/

Might as well just get a single ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB and eyegasm at the triple monitor gameplay.

I wouldn't recommend 4870 Crossfire at this point. I'd go with either a single 5850 or 5770 crossfire.

I've got a few suggestions for these...

Powersupply - Antec TP650

CPU Cooler- Coolermaster Hyper 212+ (review here)

I'd trust the Antec brand a little more over "APower", and the Hyper 212+ beats the CNPS9900 by a good margin and is about half the price

And I would second the 5850 vs Crossfire 4870s

After doing some reading, I think I'm going to save a little more money and get the Radeon 5850 and use it with eyefinity! I love some of the setups I've seen with the eyefinity.
