Thread Starter
ok i just started to oc my pressy and so far it is up to 3.150 with idle temp 38-40 and load 50-57 (hasnt actually got to 57 but i think it will if i use it for a while). so wat i want to know is with these temps how far do u think i could push it?? i only hav stock cooling for now but am hopeing to get a big typhoon soon (if u read my tread about wat happened last time i tried to get one u will know it might take a while.)so yeah any help would be good and ill keep u updated on the temp and oc % etc hope this will give me a bit better fps in games

thx gill

How exactly are you testing your temps under load ? I mean what software(s) are you using to do that and how long are you running them ? Are you running 2 or more testing applications together ?

I thought you said the peak was @ 57C.
I don't mean to sound picky but trust me that 3C difference (between 57 and 54) can make a stable system go crazy.

I would suggest running two instances of Prime95 along with folding@home to see if the temp goes any higher ?
As I said in my previous post... theoretically you can go up to 65C when overclocking Prescotts but why push it to the limit on stock cooling. Try to keep it below 60C for now

One other thing... if you want better fps in games then overclocking your cpu might not be the solution.
You need to find out what the limiting factor on your machine is. Is it the video card ? ram or the cpu ?
Then, accordingly, you should try to get more juice from that component so it keeps up with the others.
No matter which component your decide to overclock keep your temps under control especially for the cpu or the gpu otherwise thermal throttling will kick in and you will have crappy fps (worse than when your system was not overclocked).

Hey there team mate glad to see the young members like yourself so dedicated with learning about overclocking and the like.

One week till folding contest starts....

I realize now that we are always several hours behind on posts. I'm usually asleep when you mow the lawn... hehe. Good luck with your overclock and remember there are several guides and faq's to read if you get into an area your not sure of as well as the excellent advice you've got from the members.

Run the DXDiag tests to check if all tests pass.
1) Click on Start -> Run
2) Type DXDiag and press enter
3) Answer yes when you are asked if you want to run the test.
4) Under the first tab "System" there will be a progress bar filing up. When it's done start clicking on "Next Page" and check that tabs 2 and 3 ("DirectX Files" and "Display") both say "* No problems found".
