Asus Rampage II Extreme Overclocking Guide - Page 7

The guide suggests the use of Intel Burn Test- use that. Also keep in mind that the scenario that a stress test puts your system through is virtually non existent during real world applications. if your system lasts for 11 hours under a stress test that is still pretty good.

Edit- nvm I misread the post. just try intel burn test.

Besides this thread, which is great, I also found this guide very helpful.

99C is way to hot!

You might consider reinstalling your CPU cooler. I have the same one, and it was not very flat, meaning it was making poor contact with the CPU and not cooling efficiently. I learned from my last OC experiment that lapping your cooler and processor can lower temperatures by 10C.

If you look at these pictures notice how the outside edges still have their original finish after thousands of passes on fairly course sand paper. That sucker was round!

Hey Coldharbor, I'm using a H50 push pull and my idle temps are at 38 36 38 35. When I stress tested at BCLK 200 and vcore of 1.35v my temps would shoot up to 80-85 degrees on 100% load. Are these temps unusually high? If so, I might try reseating the cooler. Thanks.

try checking out an h50 thread. otherwise doble check your settings. your idles sound awesome. remember that strees tests test way harder than real world applications.
SO check your temps after a game; and see how they compare.

Hi Guys,

Greetings from Dubai.

I have been following these forums for a while now and finally decided to join. Bought my i7 920 system last year but only recently got around trying to overclock it...thanks largely to this particular thread. I am pretty much a n00b when it comes to overclocking and this guide was a great help.

I have managed to get a stable oc of 4.2ghz @ 1.375v with HT, TM and Intel Virtulization Enabled and SpeedStep Disabled

Temps are around 42C idle and 80C (75C if Air Condition is on ) full load on all cores.

Are these temps OK ? i tried lowering the vcore but pc is unstable...seems i too have a power hungry proc

Also i noticed my cpu does not turbo boost no matter what i do...i dont even have that option in the BIOS...any ideas why ?

Here is my rig for reference :
i7 920 DO
Asus Rampage II Extreme BIOS 1904
OCZ Platinum 3x2GB 7-7-7-24
Antec H2O 620 with Cooler Master Excalibur Push/Pull Fans
EVGA GTX 570 SC SLI

Hmm Turbo boost should be in the bios for this particular board, also in cpu z it will show your proc idle at 2.66 when you are just surfing the web or staring at your comp screen, it only bumps up to 4.2 in games and other intensive apps. CPU temps look good. Glad the guide was helpful

thats the thing...i researched some more and found that if i leave CPU Ratio to auto then the Trubo Option appears where it should and works fine but if i set the ratio to any user defined value then the option disappears...i guess its the same thing, 4.0ghz with turbo to 4.2ghz or using 21x multiplier to get to 4.2ghz...so all good there.

Going to try running prime95 @ 1.36v to see if thats stable or not

i noticed another wierd thing in cpuz though, with the speedstep my cpu drops to 2.4ghz with 12x multiplier :S....am i doing something wrong ?

used the settings of page 1 on my Asus Rampage II Gene i7 920 for blck 200 (cpu ratio 21)

but my idle temps were 45-50... under load the temps are really quick past 80-83..

tried to lower the core voltage but bsod'd my ass..

when loading de default bios settings my temps are idle at 30-34..

Please help!

Hi,

I bought a gaming rig from a colleague of mine which have quite the same configuration as yours. Using your overclocking recipe I was able to crank my rig from 2.66 Ghz to 3.79 Ghz on air with a push pull config. I know I could achieve even higher overclocking which I might try in the future.

In order to run VirtualBox with a tril version of Windows 10, I enabled the "Intel Virtualization tech", but I was still unable to run the new OS which runs in a Windows 8.1 VirtualBox configuration.

By reviewing my OC BIOS config with a working setup in which Windows 10 runs correctly, I finally found the faulty BIOS setup which is "Execute Disabled bit". By enabling this flag I was able to run VirtualBox and the new OS.

I found an explanation of this flag here

Hope this can help someone.

Thanks again for the initial setup.

Hi

Need some help please!

I've followed the template on the first page but I my core is set to 1.4. I can't get my pc to boot past 3600mhz

Cpu is x5650 and the ram is corsair mx3 (I think) but swapped them for some corsair vengeance. Temps are great also.

Any ideas?
