Sigh. I thought I was back up and folding with the desktop, but it keeps dropping the work units. So until I can get it figured out, I will be setting the PS3 to fold for the team and have my desktop folding under a different name. Once I can get at least a work unit to register from the desktop, then I'll switch over if it is better than the PS3. Right now, it looks like the PS3 is doing better than my desktop has done historically. It takes more work units to equal the point value, but it gets them done quicker than smp.
I've tried various vmware setups and winsmp and nothing seems to consistantly register an smp work unit. The computer is completely stable now, I believe, but it just keeps resetting the work units at various percentages. I'll try one last vmware/ubuntu setup tonight and see if I can get something stable going.
But until further notice, I'm folding 24/7 with the PS3.
