i know overclocking isnt Bad for the computer, but what about the stressful programs that video cards and processors are put thru for benchmarking or stability testing? Can these cause problems down the road?

The programs are just used to recreate a demanding application. They won't damage hardware themselves.

no, they will only test for problems you have currently, it helps you know if your system is stable at the current OC.... it will not damage anything running these programs... games can do the same thing, but it is just easier to run a simple program than try to run a game for only a few minuits to see if your stable and what not...

Overclocking can actually be harmfull to your computer if you let CPU tempratures get out of hand..and there are benchmarking programs to test out how good your hardware is ..namley 3DMARKO5 AND 3DMARK06
