I'm in! Got a 445 unlocked to a quad. Oc'd to 3.4ghz. Don't really feel the need to push it as its my wife's rig for school.

Was stoked though when it booted right up with 4 cores (for 68 bucks)

Hello all, I'll try this here before posting a new thread and hopefully I'll get some answers. Anyway, bought a Phenom x2 550 non BE and have been trying to successfully unlock the other 2 cores. My ASUS M4A78LT-M mobo has the core unlock feature upon startup. Well after activating, it says 4 core successfully unlocked and boots up into W7 fine. CPU-Z recognizes the new processor with all 4 cores running at 3.1GHz and it runs through Windows Experience and Performance Test 64 fine. Now here's where I'm stumped. After running for an X amount of time, it will freeze. Doesn't matter what I've been doing, I've ran tests, surfed, played music and videos and gamed for well over an hour on one session and it was running like a champ. Then out of no where BOOM, it freezes.

So my question to any and all is, can anyone help me unlock this and keep it that way? I've built my own systems for over 11 years now but have always ran them stock I don't know jack about OC'ing and all the tips and tricks that go with it but would love to learn if it gets me those other cores permanently.

I've searched and read through a lot of forums but can't seem to find an answer or a how-to guide for my situation. I'm assuming that since I am able to run everything normally on 4 cores that mine is in-fact a true quad core but maybe I'm needing to adjust some voltages or multipliers (both of which I know nothing about) to cement the unlock?

Thanks, any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Yer, pretty much the same for me except mine runs for about 5-10 mins and completely crashes.

try raising the voltage a bit to make it stable.

I would recommend using a better cooler than stock if you are upping voltage though as you may find temps rise a bit.

Thanks for the response, I litterally went through each voltage setup, increasing 0.5 each time from stock to 1.4 (I was leery to go higher.) At 1.4 I got about 5 hours of full use and stress testing before it finally froze. Seeing as how you're running a higher voltage and clock I may have to try that in the future.

What I did find out however, is that my 3rd core is defective. I was able to unlock only the 4th core to make an X3 and it's been running without a single problem for a full week now. I'm running at stock voltage and stock clock which I'll leave it for now as I'm content with performance, especially after upgrading from an Athlon X2 4600.

I'll update here in the future if I end up changing anything successfully.

EDIT:

Forgot to add, I bought this used off Ebay for $50 thumb.gif

You guys really have to watch out what motherboards you are using to unlock with, I am seeing a lot of weak 4+1s/3+1s and failure-prones!
