Asus P5AD2-E Premium

Thread Starter
Has anybody had any experience reseting the cmos in an Asus P5ad2-e Premium Motherboard? I have looked with a magnifier, read the manual and still not sure what to do. I can locate the battery. If I take the battery out will it reset the cmos on this motherboard?

I was hacked and my remote access was exploited the best I could tell? After I shut down, my passwords won't work in Windows 2000 Pro anymore? So, I'm dead in the water and don't know what to do at this point. I Really don't want to FORMAT C:>, if I don't have to?

Also, I plan on buying a Harware Firewall, any suggestions on brand, make and model of good quality Hardware router/firewalls. Dial-up is my only option in my very rural area I live. However, I am building a custom made copper 125 mile WiFi antenna system that may help with the low bps in my area?
Thanks alot,
Oknilp.

Well if you computer has been hacked and your password changed, then I am afraid that you cannot do anything but reformat the harddrive. Reseting the CMOS battery will not help the situation unless they have somehow changed your BIOS settings. (Not sure how they could do this). What you could do in the future is install the OS on a different particion, so that when you re-format you do not lose all of your data.

For a good firewall, I suggest using the windows XP SP2 one. Also if you get a router, then I believe that it makes it difficult/impossible to hack your computer. But, you would have to check with a network guru...

Hope I helped,

Paul

I am really interested in buying that motherboard (they are expensive though ). How do you like it? I have the same processor as you. Don't worry, stick with Intel as the new Conroe will be out soon.

Thanks a bunch once again paul I'll give it a shot. Man I hate formating, it takes sooo long to get all the updates with dial up! However, at least my machine seems to be ok? Thanks again Oknilp.

The P5ad2-xe Premium is worth every penny. I have been very happy with it. I have overclocked my 3.4 0a-0b compatible over 3.91ghz stable on stock air cooling and thats using only the Asus AI booster console. Bios funtionality makes it easy for overclocking. If I really knew what I was doing I think the Ram-Mobo-CPU I have would go very far into the 4.xx ghz with custom air, let alone water. I have been considering water cooling now that the kits and what not are mainstream and work so well? I would get this board if you can? I think it still rates very high against other newer boards? They hold there value according to NewEgg as do our 3.4's. my Memory is something that few have seen, but go look at the spec on these dimms they have been every bit as good as the ratings.

Now, tell me about the Conroe? I've not read up on it. It sound like the equalizer. I was asked to trade my 3.4 for a 3.2 640 em64t? What do ya think of this proposition overall? I do want the em64t but should I wait for other? Don't get me wrong I like the 550 3.4 just fine.

I would make that trade in a minute flat. The 640 will do a better o/c. Runs cooler as well.
