Thread Starter
Hey I am replacing a GPU on my bros dell sometime in the future and wants to upgrade his GPU for BF2 will this GPU be sufficient for max settings
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130002
Or this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130264

The bottem one has better specs Mhz wise but bad reviews.
Top one has better reviews but worse specs.

Anyways he wants to run full settings if possible

Thanks loads

Don't put a lot of weight into "reviews" from people posting on Newegg. You don't even know if they know what they're talking about or if they actually even own the product their commenting on. There's a ton of bad info/lies on Newegg reviews. With that said, those have the same gpu/memory, but might have slightly different cooling. One is simply clocked higher at the factory and shipped out. It's a good card, but there's no possible way you'll be able to play BF2 with maximum settings without it being choppy.

The thing he should really be looking at is how much RAM he has. With all the eye candy turned on you'll be using around 1.7GB of RAM. If he has a GB of RAM currently installed then he'll be using up a lot of his page file, which can cause the game to be choppy.

To me both cards look about the same. It seems the second one, an individual couldn't unlock the 4 extra pipelines on the card. The first one, someone reported they were able to but they had artifacting. Based on that I'd go with the first one, you have the chance to unlock the extra pipes and you may or may not have artifacting. You'll just have to test it to see.

yeah either of those cards will do fine. They will compare to a 6800GT... and since they are the AGP version they will actually unlock to a 6800GT so they're a good buy.

the cheaper one w/ slower clocks will most likely OC to the faster clocks... but the one w/ faster clocks is guaranteed to run at those faster speeds... it's all up to you.

but yeah, w/ BF2 RAM is really important... your bro might want to add some more RAM

one other thing... The Dell cases don't really have great airflow... so you'll want to get a cardfan to plug into his case. (depending on what model your bro has) I had an 8200 and was able to get my hands on a cardfan that fits the 8200 case for sure. I actually still have it. pm me if you're interested or have more questions

err

Yes the 6800gs will run nicely, plus theres a chance to unlock pipes on the AGP versions.

Pick the first one and save the 20$,you can oc it yourself easily and posts above are right you'll need 2gig mem to run bf2 all smooth.
As it has already been said, a 6800GS can cope with BF2 easily graphics wise. It is the RAM that limits performance, its a real hog. For smooth gameplay you need 1.5GB RAM at the minimum, preferably 2GB.

I have THIS EVGA card and it ROCKKS!!
BF2 run at High everywere, except textures at medium, because I need more ram. But yes it's much more beautifull, no lag.
PLus I unlocked mine and no artifact in the pixel pipeline or Vertex shader.
Awesome card.

Aquamark Bench:
61000+ Stock
64000+ Unlock
69000+ Slith Overclock

3Dmark06
2600+ Slith oc whit the 82.12, now using the 83.40, and I'll re-bench later.

I think I have umped on the ATI bandwagon.....

This card (X1600PRO AGP) Just came out, and from its reveiws on PCI-E is compares with a X800 and loses slightly to a 6800GS but it is only 130$!

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...-x1600_19.html

EDIT: This is an XT version, XT is just 1.4Ghz mem and 600CORE with GDDR3
