Hi everybody! Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong thread but can I join with the RIIIGene? Or is there a special thread for Gene owners?

I know you already got most of it off but regular old alcohol swabs that you can get from the local drug store work great, also nice for cleaning connections.

I have been looking all over for some overclocking profiles using the i7-950 on this board. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I kind of dont even no where to start with this board, its much different from my old 939amd setup in terms of bios.

Does the VRM section of the board gets really hot if there's not fan blowing directly at it? A little worried about the VRM temps since I'm using a H50 with R3E, and I only have one 140mm intake fan in the case, which is blowing at the video card section.

Question about the Warranty incase anyone knows. I just recieved a R3E board from an open box deal on newegg. recieved everything except the retail box and the manual. The slim box that the motherboard was in had a sticker on it stating it was "Manufacture's Reconditioned Parts". What does this mean. Was it refurbished from being previously damaged? I haven't tested it out yet. Still need to get the I7 from microcenter. When I went to register the serial # on their website it said it was already registered. I hope it has a full 3 year warranty.

You still have a full warranty if you have any issues. What happens is that Asus takes boards that are RMA'd and fixes them and tests them. They then sell some of them to Newegg which sells them as "Open Box" units at a discount. Sometimes they come with all the accessories and sometimes they come with just the board, it's hit or miss. Same thing happens when you RMA your board with Asus, sometimes they send you a brand new one retail package and all or sometimes you get just the board or something in between. I just RMA'd my board with them, an "Open Box" from Newegg, and they sent me just a board back. I was still able to do the advance RMA process with no issues. In fact the tech told me the board I had was previously RMA'd for not working with a wireless router. Asus tracks their boards with the serial number, so you do not have to register it or keep up with your receipt like some manufactures, in fact you can be the third owner and still have the warranty since it is based on serial number and starts from the date of when it was manufactured. If you have your receipt and register it, then that's when the warranty will begin. So do not worry about the warranty, just sit back and enjoy your new MB.

Generally speaking, you shouldn't have any problem with Asus warranty even if it was an Open Box. However, since the serial number is already registered it may give you some problem since the warranty is based on the serial number (None of my Asus Open Box from Newegg were registered tho)

I was thinking about getting an OB one when I bought mine, but TD had a deal at that time so it only cost $300 plus I got $36 cashback on top of the discount

You don't need a profile.

set at 190x21, set vcore to 1.22 for starters DRAM voltage to 1.64, QPI to 1.26 and you will have a stable 4ghz overclock.

Pretty much everything else can be left on auto.

Dunno about that 1.22V thing. As far as I can tell, the new 950's are pretty junky.

I'm stabilizing one right now without HT and it takes 1.4V for 4.4GHz. Any lower and it fails.

With HT it passed at 1.5V. I haven't tried lower than that yet.

I'd say these are 1.275-1.3V 4GHz chips, if not higher. My first 920 was a 1.35V 4.0 chip.
