Rampage III Extreme X58 Information thread - Page 51

you can plug only one both for major overclocking (I say 4.5 Ghz and up) you need both.

As for the GPUs, you need to use slot 1 and 3 for x16 mode....and you dont need to plug the Ez_plug molex for the sli, but I recommend it, because I have a crossfire setup (hd 5850) and its running fine at stock speed and if I overclock my card over 900Mhz core, it BSOD because I dont have enough power.

Hello everyone! I should be building soon with the RE3, 980x and 12GB if G. Skill. Was hoping to start this weekend but the memory shipped from across the US so I have to wait till Monday.
The new build will have what's in my machine now with the addition of another GTX 480.
Looking forward to sharing my experience.

and i only have two screws too
I just took it apart, on the NB, do I put enough just to cover the actual part touching the heatsink? or do i need the same amount as the yellow stuff that was on it before?

Wow dude....no that's not why your bluescreening, your bluescreening because your overclock is unstable. How do you think people are running crossfire 5850's overclocked with a 900MHz+ core on other boards that don't have the 4 pin power?

Get your facts straight before typing.....your confusing people.

Use just enough to cover the x58 NB die. You don't need much, apply using the same method you would a CPU when seating a heatsink and fan.

thanks, I just wasn't sure since there was enough yellow stuff on it to cover a die the size of the SB.

704 is official now on their website. I will probably update mine from the beta version to it just to be official.

On a side not, for those having a hard time overclocking on this board, I found that lowering my CPU PLL down from the 1.8v default gave me stability. In fact I am currently running mine at 1.2v, although I will probably raise it up to 1.4v as suggested on xtreme. Anyway, I was having a hard time getting 4.2Ghz stable on my 980x regardless of the voltage I was pushing, but as soon as I lowered that I got it stable (Linpack) and haven't had an issue yet. It also dropped my CPU temps a couple degrees under load. Just something you guys may want to try before giving up on an overclock.
