Has anyone tried the new 901 official bios yet:

Here is the link from the ASUS Downloads: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...f_type=3&os=30

I am flashing it now...

BTW, here is the ASUS main FTP site for the board:

I'm running on 0704 right now, is it worth upgrading to the 09xx bios? Do they improve overclocking and performance or is 0704 enough for most users? I'm looking to get as much out of my OC as possible, but I've always been wary of beta BIOS versions.

Edit: I see 0901 is official, flashing now.

I just flashed and had to revert to my other bios chip. Before flashing to 901, I first set bios defaults, saved and exited. I then went back into bios, and with the 901 bios loaded on a fat32 USB, I flashed. On first bootup I was given the F1 or F2 option. I selected F1 and set the bios to my previous settings. I rebooted and had the F1 or F2 option (failed OC). So I set bios defaults and rebooted. Every time I booted after that, I got the F1 or F2 option meaning the bios kept failing to load, even at default.

So now I am flashing back to the 0860 bios...

update 1: Flashed back to 860 without any issues. I will now try to boot to the other bios (bios2) and flash 901 from the original bios shipped with the board (402).

Update 2: I downloaded the 901 bios straight from the ASUS download link and not the one (removed from previous post) from XS. I was able to successfully flash to 901 from the 402 bios on bios2 chip. Something to note, when I flashed the first time, the 901 bios had a lot of setting not on default, so I don't know if the bios linked from XS was altered, or if flashing from 402 was the reason I was able to flash successfully. Either way, it is now working!

These bios don't like oc profiles or reverting. I had the F1 and F2 prompt too, and hit F2 for defaults instead of F1 like you. It refused to load my OC profile when I went in ("Does not match") I was told.

So , yeah, we ran into the same issue differently. You just need to manually punch in all the same numbers. Aside for that these BIOS seem nice. Getting snappier POST times, OC performance and ability is obviously no different but BIOS aren't miracle workers. I'm gonna test out that 2D performance mode and memory enhancements tomorrow.

@ Your update 2, thats bizarre, everything was silky smooth for me and all defaults looked normal. All VID's were accurate and all settings were on stock, it sucks you had to work all the way through a BIOS2 conversion to get it to work. To be fair I didn't follow the link posted here, I went through the website, perhaps that is it.

Yeah I think the XS link to the bios had some issues. I should have had everything stock after the initial flash, but the bios options where way different then the ones from the ASUS download site.

Even something as simple as the Storage configuration was different. Instead of [IDE] [AHCI] [RAID] settings, there was a fourth setting that I had never seen before (can't recall what it was). And when I set the OC mode to manual in Extreme Tweaker, it tried to set either [4.0GHz Crazy] or [4.2GHz Crazy] mode as if i tried the CPU level up.

Looking at the 901 bios I am running now, I can see just how different that XS bios was. But the DL link showed it coming from an ASUS ftp site, so I am really stumped on this one. I did notice some members on XS having the same issue, so it might have just been an altered bios somehow...

As for the OC profiles, I've never seen the bios on my Rampage Formula, Rampage II Extreme and now my Rampage III ever able to carry them over. I always make sure to take pics with a camera of all my bios settings and just re-enter them as needed.

Anyone who is running the IOH heatsink with fan, are you having clearance issues with the Noctua NH-D14? Thanks.

hi, I have an old DVD burner that I would like to hook up to my Rampage III Extreme but I can't seem to find the corresponding IDE slot. What kind of internal cables do modern DVD drives use to connect to the motherboard?

Hi. When I power up my machine, I get to the POST screen and when I hit DEL it says: "Entering SETUP...." but I never get to the BIOS screen. It pretty much freezes during POST.
Should I clear the CMOS or what?

EDIT: nevermind, I had to unplug some of the HDD's and now it miraculously works again.
