Looking forward to your thoughts on it, I'm debating between the r3e & classy 4-way boards. Now that I can get colder I need something that can reach higher clocks.

From what I've seen and from my experience, if you want to push BCLK for 3D settings you should go with the Classy. EVGA must just bin their onboard chips better because getting 3D above 225 on this board is practically impossible and seems to be no hassle for them.

Don't get me wrong, this board is unbeatable for 2D, but it cannot push the BCLK without QPI Slow Mode at all. I wanted a 5.1GHz Vantage run, which my chip is fully capable of, but my board won't let me

hmm I don't know what's wrong, but I can't seem to get past the POST screen. It worked before....
I didn't really change anything, I even cleared the CMOS with the button on the I/O shield plate, but it's still giving me the same problem.
I removed 3 of my DIMM's. Can I also try using only 1 DIMM even though it's triple-channel?
Apparently this boot issue is a widely spread problem with this motherboard (tomshardware)

Thanks, I want to go for 3d scores as well so will probably try out the classy first. The ud9 is also up there but the price is crazy...

Do you have anything USB plugged in? Not familiar with the r3e but I know my bloodrage had issues with POSTing when I even had a wireless usb adapter plugged in.

However, if you've been considering a 980X, the R3E is the best board for that all around. I wish I could have one

Thanks for your answer. I haven't tried unplugging all the USB cables but I will do that in a couple of minutes.
Right now I am trying a different approach: I contacted Asus technical support and the lady on the phone said I should:
-unplug all the power cords from the motherboard
-take out all the DIMMs except the one in the A1 slot (2nd from left)
-take out the battery and let the motherboard stand for 11 minutes
-put battery and power cords back in and try booting it up

let's see how this goes

EDIT: Didn't work. called back Asus tech support. They told me to clear the CMOS a couple of times (hold down the button for 10-20 seconds). None of these solutions worked. Tomorrow I'm gonna have to get a new dvd-drive with Sata connection and I will try booting off the CD that shipped with the mobo.

If that doesn't work, I'm gonna have to RMA it. But I'm afraid ASUS won't let me RMA it because I bought it back in May?!? Is that gonna be a problem? It was just sitting in the dust for two and a half months while I had to scrape money together to buy the rest of my system...

I'm also not sure if my RAM is running at 1600MHz. Any way to check that it is? Keep in mind that I'm not a noob when it comes to computers, but I am a complete noob when it comes to OC'ing.

Anyone? Or should I use the software that came with my R3E to OC?

Definitely considering a 980x, but I may build a new rig around it.

Overclock through the bios, software can do stupid things with voltages. The general guides do cover the basics.
