Rampage III Extreme X58 Information thread - Page 74

I've used two versions of the classified and this board. I've finally got a fully capable board here and the features it packs on the RIIIE are awesome. I've been using the android app and it's very similar to the evbot but with a better interface since it's touch through my phone, but its a little more difficult to setup.

Now I haven't been able to use my 980x on the RIIIE yet, but the 920 is going fairly strong on it and the clock per clock efficiencies are through the roof compared to the e762 I had. I'll be able to better answer your question once I get more time on this RIIIE.

picked this 4870x2 up for 75 shipped! and a quicky go at 06 with typical water on a 920

I got my board and everything else, tomorrow morning I install my 980X and go from there.

I want to go ahead and update the BIOS to 0901, two questions:

Should I do this before or after I install Win7 for the first time?

I want to use the USB BIOS Flashback function and the manual says to rename the BIOS and load it into the root directory of a USB. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but do I just need to have R3E.ROM on the USB and not in any kind of folder?

You can actually store the BIOS anywhere you want as you have the option to navigate the system hard drives from the BIOS.

It doesn't matter if you flash before or after installing.

Just copy the R3E.ROM file onto your USB drive, plug it into the ROG connect slot on the I/O shield plate and press and release the ROG connect button so that its LED starts flashing. Once it's done flashing, you should be good to go.

I'm probably ordering this board tomorrow, board spec memory says,
DDR3 2200(O.C.) / 2133(O.C.) / 2000(O.C.) / 1800(O.C.) / 1600 / 1333 / 1066

Is this board picky when it comes to memory because neither show up on the DDR3 Qualified Vendors List

Question is will it run this,
CORSAIR DOMINATOR-GT 6GB (3 x 2GB) 2000 (PC3 16000)

or would this be better?

I can only vouch for the Pc12800, works with no issues. However there is 2 versions you can get the

CMT6GX3M3A1600C7 or the TR3X6G1600C7D

They are both basically the same ram, 7-7-7-20 1.65 etc etc however the first one is the newer one that Supports Corsair DHX Pro technology.
