Quick comparison question

Thread Starter
I'm building a new computer and I just have a quick question about which hard drive I should buy. Somebody on here recommended a Western Digital Caviar SE16, but one of my friends said Western Digitals fail often and are crappy and whatnot. He recommended a Seagate Barracuda 7200.8. I don't really know much about hard drives, just that they store my stuff :-p The WD has a 16mb cache which is twice the Seagate's 8.... but that's pretty much all I know. Does anybody have any experience with these drives?

Thanks, Pete.

Well, you could get another drive with 16MB of cache, my Maxtor MaXLine Plus III costs $121, is 300GB and has 16MB cache with a 7200RPM speed, sound good to ya? Or if you can spend $299 on a hard drive, get the new WD Raptor 150, 150GB 10000RPM and 16MB cache (WDs are not the best quality but their Raptors are the exception, these do not fail too often, atleast the 74GB and 150GB do not, the 36.7GB ones do since they have older bearings and such)

EDIT/// what interface do you need? PATA/SATA? and if SATA then 150 or 3.0GB/s (SATA II)

EDIT//// one last thing, go to the top of the screen to USER CP and then click on EDIT SYSTEM SPECS and please fill in as much as you can.

I've been using WD for probably 10 years and I've never seen one fail. I only use WD and it's the only brand I will continue to use.

The company that makes raptors does not make bad drives...lol

I have purchased many OEM WD's, never had one problem.

I have several Western Digital SATA, two are over two years old, and no problems on any. Seagate makes good drives also, I have several of them as well.
