Nikon or Canon Starter DSLR nikon 3000d or canon xsi - Page 4

I cannot speak about Canon, haven't used them.

Might suggest the following:

Save you allowance for this: Nikon AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR II Lens
its a reason to buy a Nikon they can be found around $550+ every now and then.

Then,

The d3000 is the update to the d40x/d60 those can be found refurb/used body only around $200, then in a year you can dump it back on ebay for what you paid for it.

Nikon also makes their lenses in Japan, and as far as I know, Japanese optics are second to none (they sure used to be), Canon's are Chinese made.

also could consider sellin the kit lens for a 18-105mm. for the price range, its one of the better zoom lenses. good carry around w/o having to switch [if u had 18-55 and 55-200]. covers good amt of range. could find it sub 300. i switched to a 18-105 from 18-55. always felt 18-55 was a bit short.. and didnt wanna fork over amt for 18-200. lol =X

just an idea. good luck ! oh if u get a canon.. the canon lens to get is 24-135 i believe? good starter

want to thank everyone for their opinions and what not. really helped a lot especially with the lens to pick in the long run..
ive decided to get the nikon Kit with the 2 lenses for now as i need it for the event. and in a few months il sell it and buy the Xsi + zoom lens. to many it may not be practical most would say just save more and buy the xsi kit. but then im budgeted right now before the event lol ive tried both cameras from friends and they both feel perfectly fine to hold.
im just budgeted , cant use CC lol! maxxed out! hahaha so using watever cash i have.
who knows maybe in the following days il get lucky and be able to buy the Xsi hahah

No.

Basically all the Japanese companies make their higher end equipment in Japan. Canon, Nikon, Sony, Pentax, etc...

All these companies have their low end equipment made in places like China.

To further prove my point, my Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS and Canon 10-22mm are made in Japan.

The D3000 I would put slightly below the XSi, but the D5000 above it.

Reason? The D3000 is the replacement to the D40.

No, their mid-level lenses and bodies are made in Thailand. The pro line of glass and lenses, as well as the older primes are made in Japan.

Their plastic lenses (50mm f/1.8 AF-D) are made in China.

Canon does the same thing, the highest end stuff is made in Japan, other stuff is outsourced.

The D3 is made in Japan, as was my D1H and F100.

My D300s was made in Thailand, as is the D3000 and above.

The D40 does have some advantages over the D3000, despite being the predecessor like less noise at every ISO and a faster 1/500 flash sync speed.

The D70 can do 1/500th as well. Does that make it better than the D80 or D90?

The D40 was a strong camera, and if you can find a good deal on it, it would work fine, but the price difference between the two for me to say it's a better buy.
