Something like this could work. You could also feasibly do the same system with a cheap AM3 board and DDR3 ram since the prices are so close.

I think it will also come down to whether or not the integrated GPU on the 700 chipsets will suit your quality settings in WOW. Otherwise, add another ~$75 or so for a low end dedicated GPU.

You can probably shave money on the HDD and potentially by getting a cheaper (Coolermaster Centurion for example) case and PSU. Look for deals, open box, etc to pinch pennies. I just ran through newegg real quick for an example.

$119

$145

$79

$48

People are going to come in here and say you can run wow on an old Intel integrated chipset. Well, it will run, but it will run like garbage, unless you consider 800x600 @ low settings 30fps acceptable. I personally can't stand it, or any other game for that matter, at anything less than 60fps.

If you want 60fps and at least middle settings at 1680x1050 or 1920x1200, you'll need a decent system.

If I were you (or whoever is purchasing the parts), I would keep an eye out on OCN for used parts; you can buy new but they will be less powerful.

I'd look for something along the lines of an Athlon II or Wolfdale based system with either a G92 (8800GTS 512, 9800GT, 8800GT, GTS250) or RV770 (4850, 4870) based card.

Pair those two parts with cheap MB, RAM, HD, DVD, peripherals, and you've got a half-decent system.

I'll try to get a Newegg cart together to give an example.
