4gb vs 8gb ram-?

I mostly use my pc for gaming on intensive games and the occasional bit of encoding, will i notice a big performance increase from buying another 4gb of ram?

is the advantage of 8gb that you can load a full program onto the ram? or something else?

Most people will say that 4GB is plenty and that you really don't need more then that. However, I constantly use over 4GB of ram myself while gaming so for me the jump up to 8GB was much needed.

I dont think you would notice a real performance increase in gaming, programs should open a small bit faster i believe. But if you use photoshop, aftereffects, ETC. you should see a noticable difference in performance there.

If you can afford it now, go for it... you may not be able to afford it later, and you will wish you bought it. It will give an increase in performance, however large or small, and that is why we are all here.

You won't see a big performance increase unless you are using up all your ram regularly.

And sure, I guess windows could use superfetch to cache more programs, but everything(including autodesk and adobe products) is lightning fast on my system and I have only 3GB.

The only reason I can think of to have over 4-6GB of RAM would be if you're actually going to be using it. My server has 8GB of RAM but also runs an additional 4 VM's and uses every bit installed.

Just for day to day gaming 4GB is usually more than enough.
