I thought you had already purchased the 996829s which are the same as the Ridgebacks you are looking at, just a different heat spreader.

For AMD I still like the Redlines(996804) better
Nope, it was a mistype priced+it never came to stock. Bad pc-shop :/ Then i went for PSU, since my was on destruction pass Then gpu and d14, now memory and mobo.

Thinking of Redlines, lots of good posts about them in amd system.

Sean,

I had not thought about that, thanks for suggesting it.

I am seriously thinking about building a new PC with an i7 980X and an Asus Rampage III Extreme. If I do this I wanted to use some fast 2000MHz ram because I figure if I can't get the i7 980X to 4.4X on air then I am doing something wrong.

If I can OC my 998691's to 2000MHz then I can use those and just get a different Mushkin set to put in my current rig when I sell it.

If I OC my 998691's to 2000MHz what kind of timing could I expect to get and be stable? I would be suprised if I would be able to get 2000MHz at the defaul 6-7-6-18 1600MHz timings. Do you think that 7-7-7-20 at 2000MHz is doable with my 998691's?

Right now my Dram voltage is at 1.66, how much higher could I go and be safe?

Generally the 998691 kit will do 8-9-8-24 @ DDR3-2000, some people have been able to get 7-8-7-21 at DDR3-2000.

A 980X is going to make the task easier, because you should not have any Uncore problems.

1.66V is technically the maximum memory voltage for warranty, beyond that it's at your own risk. You don't necessarily need more memory voltage though, many times too much voltage will make the memory error out as well. My kit of 998691 runs just fine to DDR3-1800 at 6-7-6-18 at 1.6V, if I apply 1.65V they will error out.

I was pretty happy with my Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 1600 (996657).

You know it's a good product when I can remember the model number 3 years later.

What is the best triple channel kit I can get on my i7 930 on a Gigabyte UD3R? I'm looking for something with great overclock capability so I can learn some things.

I was thinking the ridgebacks?

Sean,

I bought a set of 998805 ram to put in my signature rig. I am going to use my 998691 ram in a new rig.

I put the new ram in my signature rig and in the BIOS all I did was change the timing to 6-8-6-24. I booted the PC and only 4G showed up, I did a restart and only 4G showed up. I then shut completely down, turned the PC back on after 10 seconds or so and all 6G showed up. At the end of the night I shut the PC down, next morning turned on the PC and only 4G showed up, shut completely down, waited a couple of seconds, turned on and all 6G showed up.

My new rig is an R3E with a 980X, all clock settings are at default and the 998805 kit does the exact same thing in the new rig. My 998691 kit in both rigs boots to 6G everytime I turn the PC on, even when it sets overnight. In my signature rig that I have had for 8 months the 998691 kit has booted to 6G each and everytime I turned on the PC.

In my signature rig with the 998805 kit I have booted off one stick at a time in slots A1, B1 and C1 and the PC booted fine. I have booted with each stick individually and the PC booted fine. I have rotated the ram from slot to slot and the next morning I get the same result, only 4G show up on the first boot.

Since the 998805 kit behaves the same way in two PC's and the 998691 kit works perfectly in the same two PC's it seems to me that there is a problem with the 998805 kit. I do not know if it matters, but in the signature rig when only 4G shows CPUZ shows slots 1, 2 & 3 as populated instead of showing slots 1, 3 & 5 as populated. Shut down, turn on and CPUZ shows slots 1, 3 & 5 as populated.

Is there anything that you can think of that I can try before I RMA the ram. Please do not ask me to loosen the HSF or check for bent pins, I have already done that in the new rig and since the 998691 kit works perfectly in both rigs there must not be any bent pins in either rig.

If it is the ram is there anyway Mushkin can send me a kit with a shipping label and I will return this kit to Mushkin when I get the replacement kit.

Most of these probably do not relate to the problem, but these are the OC settings for my signature rig are below.

Regards,

Rod
