Rig for AOEIII, Civ4, Dungeon Siege, etc...

Thread Starter
As the title says, I am really into RTS, RPG, and an occassional shot of COD2 when the urge kicks in...

I am getting the rig below for a decent price and I am wondering if it would be okay for these types of games...

I am thinking that in the next year or 2 when people are dumping their 6800GS, I can get one off of ebay for $50 and run SLI for another small boost...

You guys think this rig will serve me for a while?

Definately set for another 2 years. Around 2007, we'll be seeing Vista, DirectX 10, quad cores, and PPUs, so that'd be the time that it'll start to show some major aging.

With my Rig I can play:

Civ4 at 1280x1024, 4xAA, everything on High
AoE3 at 1024x768, 2xAA, everything on High
Dungeon Siege at maxed out everything
CoD2 at medium

All at 40fps or more. Yours is much better, so I imagine all those will play at maximum with no problem.

This isn't the focus of your thread, but I thought Dungeon Siege II was one of the best written games I've ever seen/played. I was amazed at how well the story played out and how many surprises came along the way. I thought the game was retarded for the first 45 minutes, but after I got past the first few things that you kill, I was completely hooked. VERY cool game if you make it past the first few minutes. Btw, your system will play all those very well.

Yea, definatley, just get a new power supply and you'll be set.

I suggest either a Seasonic 600W (High Price) or a Sunbeam NUUO 550W (Budget Price).

Thx for the suggestion on the PSU... will look into when I get the system... BTW, I am new to OC'ing... do I really need a more powerful PSU if I only use 1 video card?

Keep in mind that the VX RAM likes high vdimm, I don't know much about the ASUS line, but I don't think it'll juice it up enough to give it more than 3 volts. You may want to consider switching to a DFI Lanparty board in order to be able to give it more than 3 volts.

Absolutley. It might not seem like it but having an insufficient amount of power can have a negative effect on your system performance.
