Whether it is outdated or not, it should not run like it is. It is ust downright silly...

I reckon its just that CPU which has a core that just runs hot to be honest and all you can do is buy a really nice cooling solution and get some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal compound.
na its old, older things run hotter just cause they waste voltage(so i thought). Oh and did you let that AS5 cure for the given 200+hours?
EDIT: actually its not really wasting, just bad managment.

I have a Sempron 2500+, currently running at 2310mhz @ 1.8vcore, hitting 54c at full load all the time (running seti in background). With AMD specs saying max core temp is 90c, I don't think this is a problem............or am I missing something??

Gave it 3 weeks, and broke it in. Still overheating...

Here is what i am saying. I think tis a good idea to get a Tred XP, and cram the cooling i got on the thing. If stock cooling gives em 51 load, then i think i would be happy with what ive got sitting on one of them...?

Anyone agree?

Well the THunderbirds and PALOMINO cores ran high voltage in today's terms at 1.75v.
It was not until the THOROUGHBREDS that the Vcore started to come down to 1.50-1.65v. The difference between the cores will be dramatic in terms of generated heat energy.

I recently set up a 1400+ THUNDERBIRD running at 161x10.5 for 1.70GHz and ran a 1.725Vcore for a nice stable setup on a SOLTEK nf2 motherboard. Heat did not appear to be a huge issue. You just got to make sure you got nice stability and the heatsink/fan is working at heat removal.

cheers

Temps have a lot to do with the actual chip itself.

My girlie has a socket A Sempron 2800+ that though running at stock speed, with better than stock cooling runs @ approximately 50-55C on load.

Im running a socket 754 Sempron 3100+ OC'ed from 1.8GHz to 2.5Ghz and I run anywhere from 32-34C on load(25-28C idle depending on the weather )...granted some of this can be attributed to my slightly superior cooling setup, but a good part of it is simply chip design.

That may be true but in no way can you compare a 2800+ SEMPRON socketA with a THUNDERBIRD core.
