Desktop Cases, anyone use one?

Thread Starter
I've been thinking about getting a new case and putting it on my desk, i have a pretty big Desk and to clear the PC from being under my feet I figure I can put it on top, but I want something that's classy and not dull or a Gaming case on it's side.

I would put it in my cabinet but A) it dosn't fit and B) I think it'll get too hot in there.

So does anyone use these cases and are they good and do you think they might be good with the components I have below becasue they will probably be in a tight space (havent really measured out any of those cases too see how much room there will be)

I have a 27" monitor that's Black coming on Tues or Wed. and I just want to look at something different.

I've been looking at these

Well I think that people feel more comfortable with stand up cases.
Older 486 computers were laided down like that. But now that the BTX
Layout has be released, and they use them for Media Centers for your
TV.

I think that they are awsome cases. I looks like they offer more space but
at the same time they dont take up that much space. Well maybe they
do take up more desk space, but they have the Server look to them!

Well I dont mind if it takes up desk space since the whole right side of my desk is never used.

I've also been tihnking about setting my computer up as a HTPC within my room, jsut not sure how to go about doing it if I want to enable HD, cause I want to get an HD converter but what connects to what I dont know and i want to make sure what I need before I do it to get my money lined up.

I'm hoping with just a new case, MCE XP, and maybe a few components I can get it up, but I'll look at the HTPC forum and check it out, jsut curious to know if anyone has one of these type of cases how much space they have, cause the ones they show dont have all the stuff in it

I had that idea a while back. Did alot of homework on them. You are going to have to also it seems . Not all can fit standard size PSU's so that will start the narrowing process rightly. Silverstone makes really nice ones so maybe check out their website . Newegg has a TON of These cases with lots of pictures so you can see the cooling abilities.

Ever thought of going like micro? Silverstone makes a very nice looking micro atx case that fits a standard psu, but the cooling is kinda..eehh. Aspire's qpacks has excellent airflow but sacrifices looks a tad, you can also shove atx psu's in there.

Also remember, as a HTPC the SOUND levels of the computer are important too, so look for ones with the best airflow with the least fans. Dont want to watch a movie to a loud 80mm burrrrrrr in
the background.
So quiet

The only reason I wouldn't want to go Micro is that I just got this A8N-SLI Board...was trying ot think of a Desktop case I could just throw all this stuff into.

I acutally just remembered that my girlfriends Dell Precision case can be used as a Desktop and would fit everything perfectly since they Workstation PCs and I found some on eBay for $50

The only thing I have to look for is if the Motherboard backings can be replaced

Well, I'm liking THIS case, Has all the features you would really need, PLUS an addition of a remote control for using it as a media center, And not to mention it actually looks pretty good!

How about this one http://xoxide.com/silverstone-lascal...tpc-black.html, lol. Might be a bit to expensive though. I have always like the tenor cases from TT.

That does look good, the only thing I'm worried about with that is the fitting of my board...even though it an ATX board it's actually a little wider than my older ATX board.

If I were to go with that I would want some better cooling for my Vid and Sound card , just to keep temps down over all...so how well would these PCI fans do (probably 2 of them)

pjlietz - lol....i'm not that well off to spend $600+ on a case, I saw that one and it is pretty sweet but a little much

Well, You would only need one.

Besides, I was just looking at the page again, It says it has vents all over the sides for pulling in air, A mesh'ish type vent (Bottom right picture on Xoxide.com) which should be more then enough.

If you had an Artic Silencer on it, That would be absolutly PERFECT.

Other then that, Best thing you can do is strap on an 80mm Tornado to the front, And 2x60mm Tornado's to the back.

And trust me, Your board will fit.

OOOOO...you make it sound too good, lol.

i'll have to sleep on it tonight and tomorrow, does me no good to order it now.

I think I'll wait on the Tuner card and make sure about the cable situation first...need to see if I can get a HD signal (if I upgrade to Digital Cable) and not get the converter box if I get a HDTV Tuner Card, casue it'll save me $10 a month
