Amd Cpu Question

Thread Starter
I have always been an Intel user and currently have a P4 3.00 Ghz processor. I would like to upgrade but have ZERO experience with an Athlon processor so I am hoping I can get some user experiences. I was lookinjg at an Athlon X2 4200+ or maybe a 4400+ and would like some idea of what kind of performance increase i can expect over my P4 and any recommendations.

Thanks

The Toledo 4200+ has 512 cache, the 4400+ has 2X the cache at 1024 so.
http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionar...icroprocessors

In the Opteron Denmark X2
A 175 or 180 may be a good consideration ... they utilize 1024 for each core thus dubbeling the cache of the Toledo 4400+!

A 4400+ is about 500 dollars. I'd go with either the X2 3800+ (Which i've heard is a great overclocker) or a single-core 3700+ (which i personally know is a great overclocker). If you go with a 4400+, then more power to you. I'll certainly be jealous.

By the way, the 4200+ has 2x 512KB L2 cache, the 4400+ has 2x 1MB.
