Artifacting Issue - eVGA 7800GT CO

Hey guys,

Alright I just finished building my new system as listed below. Haven't purchased a second 7800gt co for sli yet, but soon. However, before I go buying another card it would be nice if I could get this one working.

Currently I'm getting a ton of artifacting with this card causing any game I try to inevitably crash (BFME2 Beta especially) and I have to abort out of 3DMark06. My new OCZ Powerstream 520w SLI-PSU should be showing up on monday, but until then I am using an Ultra X-Connect 500w to power everything.

I do not have my EZPlug plugged into the ASUS A8N32-SLI board, and do have power supplied to the vid card w/ the included 6pin molex adapter. The Ultra psu is a 20pin so I have it in the correct slots of the 24pin connector on my motherboard... the new OCZ coming monday is 24pin.

Could the power supply be causing all of the artifacting? I have tried reinstalling all my drivers for Nvidia and even DX9.0c, I have tried lowering the vid's clocking using coolbits from the "stock" 470/1100 to 400/1000 but it's still artifacting. Temps on the card are normal. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Worse comes to worse I send the card back to NewEgg.com RMA, but man I hope it's just something I'm not thinking of... I hate waiting, and my luck just seems to suck LOL.

Thanks for any help you can give guys,

The psu is most likely the problem. The extra 4 pins support the mb with voltage stability. Also make sure the 6pin adaptor is plugged into 2 different molex lines.

You have to plug TWO 4 pin molexs in??? I thought it was an "open ended" extension to plug another peripheral into! Oh wow... I'll plug in a second one when I get home, I guess the card wasn't getting enough power!

Thanks a ton!

might be the PSU but also use nibitor to pull your cards bios file and look at what the delta is set at.

I have heard that people with that card which had those clocks 470/1100 had flashed the card to a newer bios. Somewhere I had read that they got the new bios from the manufacturer. Maybe just google it and see. After the flash it worked fine. Maybe something to try.

no need to flash to a new bios just edit the delta in your existing bios to 0 (something i had to do)

Wax how do I do that? Sorry, but never needed to do it before so I'm uncertain as to how I would go about doing it.

I plugged in the second molex to the card and everything is MUCH better. However... After about 30 minutes of play (30mins - 1hr) I still get MINOR artifacts on screen, which get progressivly worse. I DO NOT have the 4 pin ezplug plugged into the board because the manual says to only plug it in when you are using two cards in SLI w/out their own external power. When I had it plugged in my MB temps were way too high (53C idle)... My temps w/out it plugged in are 40C under Load.

Has everyone needed to flash their vid card's bios? or change this "delta" ???

In either case thx for the help. I'm hoping my new OCZ Powerstream PSU fixes the problem as it has it's own 6pin's devoted to sli. Arrives today.

Got my new OCZ Power Supply.... Didn't fix the problem, but at least there's fully stable system power now.

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling all drivers and DX9.0c... no change.

Tried the Delta Fix.... no change.

Tried the Updated Vid Card BIOS for the eVGA 7800GT CO N517b... No change.

I shouldn't have to work this hard to get a vid card running on stock settings. RMA'd the board to newegg.com today, hopefully I'll have a working one in my hands by the middle of next week.

With that kind of Mobo you should look at getting a Dual Rail SLI-Ready PSU. Though you may not be running SLI, the board you are using might call for some hefty power judging by the 2 4-pin connectors it needs and the PCI-E slot might not be getting the required power it needs and thats why the GPU is messing up

I'm actually suprised it Posted without all the connectors in...I couldn't get my Mobo to Post unless I had all the conectors in.

I'd return that PSU and look into any of these PSU's or any other SLI Certified one from which ever retailer you use
