Crazy Storm, now Multiple Problems :(

Thread Starter
Last Saturday we had this insane storm. A lot of people lost power for days, although I only lost cable, phone, and internet but still had power. I was not home during the storm because I had to work but apparently the power went out for like 2 seconds then came back on.

My PC was plugged in but the power switch on my PSU was off, yet I think the surge killed some components. My video card does not work at all, no video output to the monitor and there is a red light on the back of the card that was never there before.

I also noticed my top 200mm fan wasn't spinning, it looked like it was trying to spin but it wasn't. When I plugged it into a different fan header it worked fine. The fan on my Dark Knight also wasn't spinning so I tried another header and that fixed it.

Can a power surge kill 2 out of my 4 fan headers???

Also every light on my mobo, the ones at the top, is on. But I am doing all this with no video card plugged in so that might be why the lights are on.

Trying to fix mobo without RMAing it, though I'm scared other components could be fried as well.

Thanks for reading, I'd appreciate any suggestions.

The storm came out of nowhere. I had no idea it was coming or I would of unplugged everything. It seems the only thing damaged by the storm is 2 fence posts, and my PC. Right now my video card is dead, mobo damaged, and god knows what else. I'm pissed.

well, this just happened to me few weeks ago. A storm passed by and all it took was few flickers on my power. Fried my DFI lanparty LT x48 motherboard and Gskill ram. I even had a surge protector plugs.... I ended up building myself a new build which is in my profile. I loved my x3350 / dfi setup.

Best thing you can do now, is get a battery backup. There's some battery backup that acts like a power surge as well, just go to a electrical store and look around. I have a friend who's a electrician, told me go to a electrical store and they've got all kinds of batteries. Which is what i'm going to do pretty soon. Spring storms are hideous! (i'm from maine)

^^ That what my Dad said, I'm hopefully getting a battery backup to prevent stuff like this from happenening in the future. Sighhhhhhhhhh RMA's are a pain in the a$$, I really don't feel like taking my rig apart then building it again.
