ok, i o/ced my 7800GT to 495/1200 and not only am i getting artifacts in FEAR, but my pc will just freeze during FEAR and NFS: Most wanted.

i ran all benchmarks and everything works. ive called Call of Duty 2 with everything on max and it works great! ive also played NFS and FEAR on stock settings and it works fine. wassup with that?

What are the temps...artifacts are a common issue when the GPU gets too hot...if it's over 60*C then that's one problem for artifacting...

There's also been an issue with people and NFS:MW with high OC'd systems, not sure why but the fix was when the system was at stock or at a little OC things would be fine... I would get a Debug error when I would play, knocked some clocks down and haven't had the problem.

The best bet is to run everything at stock and see if it works then slowly go up becasue your graphics card is in the mix with all that stuff

then thats rasies the question, whats the point of OC'ing a card when it doesnt work correctly.

I too have run into trouble attempting to overclock my eVGA 7800GT CO. I have the aftermarket cooler on it so I figured I'd be able to get somewhere, but I get errors in ATI Tool when I take it anywhere above factory specs. That being said, factory specs for this particular card are already 30mHz over regular core clock, so I'm not surprised that it doesn't go farther, it's already overclocked in the first place.

Meh, I'll just wait til 7900 comes out, then pick up 1 or two 512mb 7800gtx's once the price drops below inhumane levels.

because manufacterers do not test their products on Highly Overclocked cards and send them out for mass production, they find the best clock that is stable so they do not have to RMA a bunch of cards because they clocked it at 500/1.15 stock that are messing up. My chip can handle a higher clock than "blazin-asian's" card can, thats the luck of the draw

It's only people like us who OC their cards and sometimes chips cannot handle high clock speeds, it's pot luck the kind of chip you get.

I can run mine effectively (when the ambient temp is low) at the posted speeds in my system spec, but once the ambient temp gets higher I start artifacting and my card gets a little unstable..one I get it on water I can put at those speed all the time

There is no correct overclock that's why there are stable and unstable clock speeds...a 10MHz increase is considered overclocked but it still works, doesn't it? Jack it up an extra 40MHz and you have some problems, doesn't mean that it's not working, the card just can't handle it
