Overclock Xeon W3520 with Asus Rampage 2 Gene

Hi,

I have a Xeon W3520 with a Asus Rampage 2 Gene motherboard and i would like to OC'd to 4 ghz. I fas as i understand, majority of these Xeon are higher binned so OC'd with low volts may not be an issue. Im not absolutely sure if im doing it right, but just to clarify this....

I set CPU ratio to 21
Bclk to 191
Cpu voltage is 1.27
Uclk freq is set to the 3100 range
DRAM bus voltage is 1.5
Qpi/DRAM core voltage is is 1.2
IOH is 1.2
ICH is 1.2
Cpu differential amp is 800mv
PLL is 1.84
DRAM freq is mid 1500mhz

Intel speed step, HT, turbo mode is all off.

So far that is what i have. Are there any other settings i need to change? Are these settings ok? Test prime for 5 hrs and all passed with cpu load 100% at high 50 degree. so if anybody can hep me and guide me through this process i'd really appreciate it.

your settings looks great

may i warn you that gene mobo are tend to have extreme northbridge temps.

check if your temp for the nb is insanely high. i would recommend adding a 40mm fan over it to reduce heat.
besides that you got a nice overclock going

Hi Razr,

Yes, im aware of Nb high temp. So far it only reach around 62 degree at most which is warm in a way. been running 4 ghz for 2 days straight now lol. everything is running fine. no crash etc... But i am still trying to find the best settings becuase i feel like something is missing...

I was actually looking to buy a similar setup (Rampage II Gene with a Xeon w3520) but have seen a lot of people talking about iffy compatibility.

What BIOS version are you using on your board and have you had any issues running the w3520 on that board?

Thanks!

Just to let you know. I am currently running my W3520 at 4Ghz with only 1.19 vCore. Let me know if you have any questions of need any help.

Try settings you IOH and ICH back to "Auto," you really don't need to worry about those settings until you really start pushing your BCLK. You can also try dropping your vCore. If your chip is anything like mine you've got some room to play with.

Sweet! I know I know old thread but who else on this planet owns a Xeon and a Rampage II Gene?

So th 3520 is still 130W what temps are you seeing at 4ghz? what cooler and thermal interface?

I'm running a 930 but i want to go with a 60W xeon x6 core but it aint happening on the X58 which is SOOO lame!

For Optimum stability on this board just set the FSB to 200, and work with your multi until your happy... 4, 4.2, 4.4 .... 20, 21, 22

How are you setting multi to 21 when the 3520 is multi of 20 or is it unlocked?

So set board to "gaming" and manually set the fsb to 200 and work with the multi until your happy. Set QPI and that other one to 1:1 ratio. Meaning say at 200x21 you will want 3690 and 7380 i believe, just make sure the lesser one is EXACTLY half of the qpi i believe.

Make sure you set your ram multi so your sitting at your designed clock for me at 200x21 or whatever im seeing ddr3-1603 so 1.51v is fine.

Don't set any additional amplitude, disable vdroop, set phase to normal to keep temps down.

cpu volts and qpi to synced voltage so idk about your W3520 but the 930 needs 1.4v vcore, 1.4v qpi for stability and set all other volts to their minimum values, so northbridge, southbridge, ram 1.51v, all others then spread spectrum to auto on all.

You should be able to get 4.2ghz but prepare for some heat.

I wish I could get a x6 core 80w cpu because 130w is way too hot.

I recently benchmarked my i7 930 at like 4.2ghz on Windows experience index and saw 7.7 on cpu, 7.9 on memory. My buddies AMD 8120 FX stock does 7.6 cpu, 7.7 memory. So that's sad the i7 barely beats the 8120 overclocked.

Intelburntest 32 threads or set max threads and everything normal because anything beyond 1gb ram usage is insane and will just tear ur rig a new one or any rig really. I say 10 runs to start with and monitor temps via AIDA logs or AIDA stability test window shows min/ max.

If it's stable at 10 runs, throw 50 runs at it. If it's 50 run stable your golden!

Oh yeah and theres no need for more than 2ghz on these 1366 chips for gaming because I'm running 0.85v vcore at 2ghz and I see like 29C under load and 60fps constant on all games in sli.
