The Biostar TA890GXE Thread - Page 10

lol i just ordered this mobo from Newegg on Friday and they sent me 5.0. but mine is full ATX not micro.

but whatever i don't care too much because i don't need to unlock anyway. you would think by now all this time later there wouldn't be any 5.0s floating around. oh well my typical luck.

anyway couple questions for you TA890FXE owners:

1) is the latest BIOS on Biostar's USA website the same as the BIOS on their China website? if not is there anything i should know about the version on their China website before i flash it? language differences, etc.?
http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/mb/bios.php?S_ID=482
vs.
http://www.biostar.cn/app/en-us/t-series/bios.php?S_ID=467

2) when i press the power button on my case to power-off the computer, it immediately powers back on if i don't release the power button at the right moment as it's powering down. if there a way to change the power button behavior so that i can just hold the button down to turn it off without worrying about it immediately powering back on?

3) after i flash BIOS i'm going to "load optimal defaults" then set RAM timings, enable RAID 0, and disable onboard audio (using PCI audio instead). i'm not familiar enough with the BIOS to do anything else so is there anything off the top of your head i should configure?

thanks!

sheesh SATA configuration is confusing.

i have 5 SATA drives:
1 x 1TB HDD
2 x 300GB HDD
1 x 250GB HDD
1 x DVD-ROM

it's not detecting my 1TB HDD no matter what SATA port it's in.

i set the two 300GB HDDs to RAID 0 through the RAID setup utility @ boot using 64 bytes and "fast init"

when RAID is enabled, 250GB HDD and DVD-ROM show "RAID:" in front of their descriptions in the boot and SATA menus in BIOS. also visible in menus is "RAID: 300GB" and "RAID: Logical Drive 2" - i don't know what the last one is referring to.

i set boot order to DVD-ROM first then RAID: 300GB second. when booting up, BIOS logo appears first, "No any devices !" appears second, hardware health status appears third, Windows loading graphic appears fourth, BSOD appears fifth. this all happens automatically without me doing anything. i know i will probably have to rebuild the RAID array and reinstall Windows, but what's with all the "RAID:" descriptions for non-RAID devices in BIOS menus, weird bootup steps/messages, etc.?

what am i doing wrong? how am i supposed to setup RAID 0 for those two 300GB HDDs and have the other two drives just be individual storage devices?

Even on the motherboard it says 5.2. I'll take a picture later after work.

Thanks for confirming that.... wink.gif

I did come across this on Newegg last night.... TA890GXERCH

It's the GXE, but it looks like it now comes bundled with a remote control and an HDMI cable.... and yes, according to the pictures, it is indeed board revision 5.2 .... thumb.gif

If your board is ATX, then it's the TA890FXE, not the GXE....

Board revisions don't make a difference for the FXE, since it came out later anyway.... by that time unlocking was available on pretty much all of the T-Series boards.... smile.gif

Yeah same board but with a remote & HDMI cable. Not quite sure how the remote would work or what it would be used for without a TV tuner. I know it also comes with an IR sensor I believe.

Also looks like I got the last TA890GXE tongue.gif well that isn't the bundle.

Mine running on Phenom2 555BE with corsair 2GB
Ive tried out core unlocking and got all 4 cores working.
But later switched back to default mode.
All these times CPU temp idled between 38-45degreeC
However for the past week Ive seen my temp skyrocketing while running CPU intensive tasks. Temperature goes on increasing 65 degree mark. Also the heat sink is very hot to touch. But under normal load temp idle around the 45degreeC mark.

Did any of you have these issues.

Help me out guyz.

What CPU cooler are you using? Unlocking that CPU on a TA890GXE should be fine, I'm running a Phenom II 565BE unlocked (160w TDP).

Make sure you have a decent CPU cooler and that it's properly mounted with the right amount of TIM.

Also, it would help if you'd add your system information. Can set that up at the "User CP" section.

All the 8 series boards come with an ir header for the bio remote wink.gif Used to be an optional extra but I guess they are chucking them in now.

Also now there is bioremote 2 which is a piece of software for android phones, you can connect the phone via wireless and control the mouse keyboard etc on any biostar motherboard smile.gif
