Lemme count the ways. Well....more programming code is supported by linux. Everything is free (with REAL distros); virtually virus-proof. How about you tell me anything a Windows macnecan do better than linux. For one, there isnt anything it can do that linux can't do....much better. rip encode DVDs...check...
Game....check.....surf internet...check....photo manipulation.....check and GIMP is much better than photoshop, but the learning curve is a bit steeper. Linux is vastly superior, but the worldhas been ndoctinated to think that Mocroshaft is superior, and it simply isn't....

First of all, I'm a huge linux fan and have been for years, but if you're going to try and make a point, learn to punctuate and use proper grammar and spelling.

^ Stop saying that, its NOT true at ALL. Photoshop is superior, period. GIMP is great but its not Photoshop.

Anyway, neither OS is better. You guys need to stop flaming and get over it. The argument is never going to end.

Linux is great. I use Gentoo soley on my main box. Kinda worried about OCing though, I've heard that compilations can be troublesome when you're OCing, they might be more fickle about OCing than Prime95 or Memtest... Not sure to be honest.

I use Linux because I'm sick of all the MS bull****. I recommend Ubuntu like most others here, it's pretty easy. If you want to learn more about Linux though, I highly recommend Gentoo. It's hard to setup, but you learn quite a bit. And if you want to learn even more about Linux, use Linux From Scratch, but that's really really hard. I'd like to try it someday, after I finish some other projects.

First of all, remove the plank in thine own eye before condemning your neighbor for the speck in his own. In the context in which you are writing, you used "its" incorrectly. It would be it's. Get off your pedastal and don't be a jerk about it. Sorry to sound like a jerk, but I'm sick of everyone to expect perfect punctuation and grammer and spelling. I usually am quite good at it, but I was on my mother's computer and several of the keys stick. This compounded with the fact that, as being human, I am prone to mistakes, and I don't run all of my posts through a word processing program and check the spelling.

Secondly, when you factor in the cost of Photoshop, GIMP, being free, is far superior.

No, you were obviously too excited at my post and didn't notice the blatant sarcastic smilie. So you're taking things personally because you know I had a completely valid point and you couldn't think of a more mature response. Not that you understood my original reply to begin with.

And that's really not the point, check the forum rules. Proper grammar, punctuation and spelling are encouraged on this forum. I never take the time to criticize others' grammar, etc. but when I see someone trying to defend a great product with a terribly thought out response, such as yours, sarcasm kicks in.

Anyway, GIMP isn't superior to Photoshop at all. I'm all for people having different opinions. However, saying it's better because it's free simply isn't true.

GIMP is free, yes. It's a very useful and powerful program, indeed. But going out and saying "GIMP is much better than Photoshop" is downright wrong.

Next time, read through the post you're replying to and, if applicable, notice the smilies and the obvious attempt to make others realize there's no use in flaming each other. Everyone has an opinion.

Apologies for coming off as an ass. I'm used to forums in which people dwell in ivory towers and criticize and base opinions of people on their grammer and/or punctuation. That looked more like a disgusted smile than sarcastic to me...but, oh well, not that it really matters. I see GIMP as a far superior product, and I beleive that its cost is a large factor in my estimaiton of its abilities.

I have used both, and I find GIMP to be a far better program. That is my opinion, and I know of many people who share that with me. But, we all march to the beat of a different drum.
