It has the same problem and it because of the bios on the card. The card never idles and fails when watching any type of video. I also cant get my windows scored because of that either. When I play games it works 100% though. Switch back to the idle clocks if you can and see if that helps while watching video.
I actually switched back so nothing is touched on the card(everything is running stock so it down clocks like normal) and I still blue screened with the same error given....If this helps it looks EXACTLY like an artifact right before I bluescreen.

I guess I can try and flash the card....This is getting out of hand.

I too have the same problem and its been ruining everything for me.

When watching videos my mouse gets pixely like you guys described and I got a BSOD with "atikmpag.sys" being the reason. Also happens to me in BC2 on DX10 and DX11 but DX9 seems to work fine.

Does anyone have anything new on this? any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOLUTION FOUND:

replace the fu.... Card BIOS with lastet Version, Video playing works without BSOD...

e.g. my Gigabyte 5870 GV-R587UD-1GD

1. Download VGA Tools --@BIOS
location: http://www.gigabyte.eu/Support/VGA/Utility_List.aspx

2. Download lastet BIOS from ( 2010-05-10 Bios Version was F6 )
location: http://www.gigabyte.eu/Support/VGA/B...ProductID=3355
and unzip

3. Install VGA Tools --@BIOS

4. Reboot Windows ( Tool doesnt work without reboot, hangs or fail )

5. start VGA Tools --@BIOS (need administrator rights)
if VGA Tools --@BIOS detect your Card 100%
then try flash new Bios ( dont use Windows safe mode )
if no detect, or detect fail , dont try flashing.

6. reboot and be happy after playing Videos

I had this error a while back on my sig rig (very similar specs to you). In the end it was fixed by doing a complete flush of ATI drivers and files and resinstalling the latest drivers.

It is an involved process, but this worked for me:
  1. download and install driver sweeper
  2. Download the very latest drivers (win7 32 HERE) and the very latest SB drivers (win7 32 HERE) - but don't install them yet.
  3. go to: start/orb -> control panel -> uninstall a program
  4. select "ATI Catalyst Install Manager" and then up top click "Change"
  5. when the pop up opens, click "next" and then select "Express Uninstall ALL ATI Software" and click next again and follow prompts until everything has been uninstalled
  6. Once finished, when it says do you want to reboot, click no.
  7. Now open DriverSweeper and in the right pane click the checkbox to the left of "ATI-Display" and then click "Analyse" at the bottom of the right pane
  8. Once it has finished analysing your PC for ATI-Display drivers/files, make sure the checkbox to the left of all the files found are checked and then click the "Clean" button at the bottom right to remove them all
  9. Once DriverSweeper has finished cleaning all the ATI display drivers/files, select the option to reboot
  10. once you have rebooted, locate the ATI SB driver you downloaded (10-10_vista_win7_32-64_sb.exe) and double-click it and then install it
  11. Once installed, reboot
  12. once rebooted, locate the ATI display driver package (10-10_vista32_win7_32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe) and double-click it and then install it
  13. once installed, reboot
  14. once rebooted, open the catalyst control center and set your monitor res and 3d display settings up as needed

And that's it - the process above will remove all ATI drivers and install the very latest for you. Thius should then fix the problem you were having.

I was getting the same issue in a Crossfire setup. 2x 6870s

Ran the suspect card on it's own, same problem. Ran the other "good" card, not crashed yet... not once.

It's a bad card i'm afraid.

Spent hours blaming drivers, when in my case it wasn't.

10-7 did not work either. BSOD after about 1 hour.

this has to be drivers.. (or a def card) if i remove all drivers, its not going blue..

Radeon HD 5770, same issue.

Solved this quickly, and I hope it works for you. I simply uninstalled CCC. That was it! no more issue.
I run a CrossfireX 5850.
