220mm Case Fan :)

Well I was going to go buy a bucnh of fancy shmancy case fans and get all my airflow and what not set up, but then I found an old beaten up barely working room fan, 220mm (9 inches) in diamater, and decided to experiment

Before my temps were:

Idle- 33 C
Load- 45 C (ish)

Now my temps are:

Idle - 26 C
Load - 30 C

I know I know, it sounds a bit extreme, but if you look at my setup, you'll see the Northbridge DFI fan, and its right under the vid. card. When I took my panel off and felt around in there, the GPU fan and Northbridge fan were creating an extremely hot airflow that had nowhere to go in the bottom of my case, so it went up, was sucked into the CPU fan, and heated up everything else. Now, with both side panels off, and this massive fan blowing in there, everything stays really cool. These temps are with 1.6v chipset, and 1.52v Vcore, OC'ed from 1.6 to 2.5Ghz. Needless to say I'm about to go for 2.6

SO to wrap it all up, if you're getting bad temps, and can't afford all those little case fans (sure they're cheap on the net, but in stores they're ~$10 each), just rig it up like mine and see how it works

They really need to make a cool fan that is 220mm that you can put in your side window. That would be awesome. I would think taking the side panel off had something to do with the temps also though.

A 220mm case fan would probably be too thick to fit on the inside of a case door.

Think I might turn this into a FAQ, it's pretty long. And a fair amount of info/examples in it too.

Well the all-mighty 220mm fan decided to crap out after 1 day's hard work (primed through the night and day, gamed after school). Now I need to find another house fan, or splurge and get case fans. I wonder if they'll work as well....

So back to 34 C idle I go

One question though, my BIOS reports temps wayyyyy higher than any monitoring software I've used, so which should I trust? I've read that my BIOS doesn't seem to have great temp sensing, but I dont know for sure :/

EDIT/UPDATE: Without the fan my CPU couldn't handle 2.6, so I rigged up a new and improved 280mm fan

I'm going to try that, except I have an even bigger fan.

I'll post my results tomorrow.

I used to have a K7S5A Pro and an Athlon XP 2400+. It was summer and very very very hot (No AC). So I took my side pannel off of my full sized case and put one of those big squared fans blowing in. It made my temps drop from 50 idle to 35. Then one day my best friends little brother spilled coolaid into the fan......That was the end of my K7S5A

Alright, so over the course of 3 hours, my case temperature went from 20 celcius to 15 celcius idle.

Not bad I'd say.

ok....here's the idea.....get twho big shop fans, and put your computer between them.....can we say 4k CFM? There's where aircooling will rival water....
