Asus M2A-VM AM3 compatible?

My girlfriend has an Asus M2A-VM motherboard, AMD 690g chipset. I am wondering if I can put an Athlon II x4 630 in that motherboard, and if I will need a bios update (something I have never done)?

hey, i checked the asus website and it doesnt seem to support the Athlon II x4 630, its not in the cpu support list so i do not think it does, have a wee look.

2 reports of Athlon II X4 620 working with the M2A-VM. There have been others of the Phenom II 920, 940, 720 working as well, check the same forums:

i ran with m2n-e athlon II 240 before asus website said that that cpu is supported, and only recently (few weeks ago) they have added it
i flashed the motherboard with newer bios and it worked
only thing is that bios didn't write the name of the processor,but says unknown,but other than that overclocking and everthing works just fine...
that reminds me though that there is newer version of bios for me to update
i say it will work

It works. Asus has a beta bios out that allows M2aVM to work with AM3. M2A VM AM3 bios 5001

What about athlon x4 630 ? Anyone tested it yet ?
I am eager to know since I have the same motherboard.So , any significant difference on the HT link 1.0 vs am3 3.0 ?
Does it display the name of the processor ? does it able to read the temp correctly ?
