Memory for older computer

Thread Starter
I have an old HP 510n with a 1.2 ghz celeron, and 256 mb of ram with windows xp home

I looked and it has a 256 mb stick of PC133 SDRAM

heres the specs for the sticks from crucial.com
SDRAM, PC133 • CL=2 • Unbuffered • Non-parity • 133MHz • 3.3V • 32Meg x 64

now i have an old dell in my basement with a 256 mb stick of PC100 SDRAM...can i put this stick in the HP and have more ram? or will i get some issues?

thanks for the help

It'll run at PC100 speed but should be fine.

it will defenetly give u more performance, the ram will run at slower speeds, but u have more RAM all together, and that will make up for it.

You should check to see what speed the ram in your grandma's computer is actually running at. If it's PC100, pop the PC100 stick in too, but if it's 133, putting the PC 100 stick in will add more ram but overall it will be slower ram. To check use a program like everest or CPU-Z
